I am naturally skeptical about what I read on the internet and I can’t remember where I heard this but I’m a bit concerned…

I heard that bonded pairs will have issues if apart for even a few hours. 

One of our rabbits is very skittish and we have made great progress with her. She used to bolt if we tired to touch her but now will let us pet her when eating and only makes one little jump when we touch her otherwise. I know some rabbits just dont like people and we love her either way but we are going to be gone for a week during thanksgiving and are concerned that we will lose all of the progress we made.

I have  roommate that I trust completely to keep them fed and happy but I am wondering if we should take them with us. 

We are visiting my parents four hours away and they love animals. They really want to meet the bunnies and I would love to bring them but I am worried about the drive. I know from having pets in the past that the acceleration in the car really throws them off and I dont want to stress them out. 

I hold the opinions of this community in very high regard and would like to hear from anyone regarding any similar situations or general advice.

Hey Matt!

I have two bonded rabbits as well and live in an apartment away from my parents home during college. During longer breaks, I go home and I take my rabbits with me, my older rabbit, Annabelle just recently opened up to me after being in a hoarding situation for most of her life. She had started to make progress with me and now enjoys my company after months of trying to get to know her. When I wanted to go home for the first time, I was nervous that our relationship would digress but with my experience–it does not at all.

I would suggest getting a large dog or cat crate that could fit both rabbits comfortably to travel. My rabbits also have a condo at my parents home, and usually the day I drive I put them in the condo and let them take the rest of the day off without any outside stresses. By the next day, they’re both usually eager to play (or still tired from the drive).

As far as leaving your rabbit with your roommate, I have done the same as well when I went on vacation this summer. Just make sure you give a detailed list of what needs to be done, section off the food needed to be given and give emergency contact. When I returned, the rabbits were more happy that I was back with them than anything else.

I’m sure they will love you no matter what, whether you take them with you or not

If you are going to be gone for a week are you going to get someone to care for your buns? Rabbits really shouldn’t be alone for more than 36 hours at the most. If you don’t have anyone to watch the buns I would take them with you. I would suggest getting an x-pen or as OskarAnnie suggested a dog crate to house your buns in when at your parents. For the car ride I would suggest putting them in whatever carrier you’ve used for them. If you don’t have one, a cat carrier that will comfortably fit both buns in it will be good. You don’t want to separate your buns on the ride.

I have brought my bunny to camp 4 nights 5 days? He seemed to enjoy it alot. I even brought him to the beach . Of course you have to leash him!
