I know that when you are petting them rabbits do a soft teeth grinding to show that they are enjoying the attention.  Sometimes when I’m sitting on a chair and my rabbit is under the chair or I’m just looking at her she’ll make louder noises.  I’m concerned that it means she is in pain even though she is not exhibiting any other signs that she might be in pain.  She acts normal otherwise.  Do bunnies make teeth noises in any other cases?

If this is indeed pain then I guess this is my sign .

I hear tooth purrs at other times. Sometimes louder too, but the rabbits look to be relaxed. If Inkblot in grinding teeth due to pain, she’ll likely be hunched up, hiding away and off her food.

You wouldn’t believe how loud my bunnies tooth purr just for the heck of it. I’m afraid they’re going to break them off in the process!
They are always relaxed when they are doing it too, either in the little bun ‘loaf’ position, or Mimzy likes to be lying on his side. It used to worry me too but after many hours of observation (and lots of trips to the vet) I have found there is nothing wrong with them. They are just supremely happy and want me to know it. ^_^ I guess I must be doing something right! xD
And yes, body position is a very telling sign, or if they won’t eat, especially favorite treats and such. And I’m meaning beyond just simple finickiness, which I think all bunnies are better at than cats. >.<

That’s good to know! Sometimes I think she just likes it that someone is hanging out with her even if they’re not petting her. She sits under the chair and lays down.

My Rabbit loves to chatter his teeth and he is always quite content! Don’t worry!

Cotton will do that when I talk to him… He also licks the floor etc as well when I talk to him. His tooth purrs are really loud too.
