For pete’s sake — Euler just managed to jump into Chunk’s cage (I caught her out of the corner of my eye literally sailing through the air.)

No real damage done, but the two aren’t bonded (or altered yet!) She explored his cage as I tried to get her out, and then went back to the corner where he was hiding. They sniffed at each other and then began circling, but really close, squished up against one another, and there was a little nipping as well. Both are fine, and seperated now.

Was the circling a sign that they were about to fight, or hump? I don’t know what to think, and I’m just still a bit shaken up and worried.

It can mean both. Can you make the cages more secure so this won’t happen?

I think if they were going to really get into it, that the fight would have escalated more quickly. He was probably just upset that she was in his territory thats why its always a good idea to start the bonding in a neutral area. I wouldn’t be too worried, its happened to me before too! But definitely make sure that she cannot get out again because she could get pregnant VERY quickly.

Yes it can mean both so it’s good you separated them as either way would not be so great. It is scary when they begin to circle though due to aggression. We call that the death spiral. You want to prevent them from circling because they will latch on, and then use their powerful feet to beat the heck out of each other. GACK!
