Hi! I have an approximately two year old mixed breed male rabbit who I rescued in September. He was definitely shy when I first got him but very social after some time. He loves running around and playing and when I lay on the floor he jumps all over me. He was always overall just a seemingly very happy bunny.
I work at a vet and about 2 months ago I came across another two year old male rabbit who is a holland lop around the same size as my original bunny (Footsie) who needed a home. Because Footsie was so social and fun loving and after speaking to my vet extensively we decided it would be okay to bring this new rabbit home and introduce them slowly for bonding. The new rabbit (Floppy) is very sweet and calm. He loves to cuddle and just kind of lay around whereas Footsie is more energetic. After going through the introduction process they seemed to really like each other. They smelled each other a lot and ran around binkying and then eventually cuddled and laid down together. Until two weeks ago they started fighting pretty badly. I have them in to separate cages but still in the same room.
Around the time they started fighting, my original rabbit (Footise) started biting me a little bit. Now its every time I stick my hand in his cage to either feed him, or pet him, or put new toys in he runs over and bites down on my hand to the point where I bleed every time and I don’t know what to do. He’s so aggressive and I just want to help him. I’m not sure if there is a way to salvage the relationship between the bunnies or if I should try to find a home for one of them instead and if so which.
If anyone has any advice that would be so great!!! Thank you for taking the time to read this! This is my first time owning rabbits so I’m open to suggestions!
