        Hey everyone

So I have 2 bunnies, Willow (female, 8 months old, spayed) and Pepper (male, 3 years old, neutered) and they have been fully bonded for around one month and a half. They live together fully and are fully free-roam. The bonding process was a bit rough, I had to use the stress bonding method since Pepper was aggressive at first, but ever since everything has been wonderful. Pepper has taken the submissive role and very frequently grooms Willow. Willow doesn’t groom Pepper at all, I think I have seen her groom him 3 times only, and each time is very short. I had read that it’s okay if both bunnies don’t groom each other and only one bun does it. Recently, he has started grunting and charging at Willow when she doesn’t groom him or for nothing at all. He doesn’t bite her or nip her and he hasn’t scratched her or anything like that. he also has been sneezing a bit more recently, I took a vet appointment but the only spots they had available was in 3 weeks. After he charges Willow, he will directly start grooming her, so im a bit confused.

Any advice or clarifications as to what is going on would be greatly appreciated!

RE: the vet appt, make sure both rabbits go to the vet, as taking only one can break a bond since the departing rabbit comes back smelling very different.

There are a number of possibilities for the behavior, but in general, just keep in mind we are humans and they are rabbits, so how we perceive the world and relationships is very different from them– ultimately, what may seem “strange” to us can be totally normal for them, so I wouldn’t stress too much about small interactions and try to read into it. They are not humans.

RE: explanations for some of the tenseness in the bond, it’s very possible the bond itself is not very stable. It is relatively new and it sounds like they were not the most compatible match to begin with, so this may be a natural conflict coming from their hierarchy and whether it works itself out or not smoothly– only time will tell. It can also be that since he may be ill, this could just be making him act differently, therefore there’s some increased tension between them.
