What does everyone think about a bunny sleeping in a cage in a bedroom???? I clean the cage out everyday so it doesnt smell. I don’t know. My mum thinks I can’t keep it in there and I think I can. I’m going to be moving out by the end of the year so it isnt permanent.

What do you all think??? Be honest.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with it! But then again… my bunny sleeps with us nearly every night, so of course I see nothing wrong with it

There is nothing wrong with having Pancake in you bedroom – it is just personal preference.

My husband is kind of noise sensitive, so our bedroom is a “pet free” zone.

We use to leave Trixie out at night and she would hop upstairs and sleep under our bed. I agree with the others… your bunny should be fine.

My rabbits and dogs all sleep in my bedroom (it is a big room), it works well for me. I actually came to appreciate my rabbits’ busy morning routine of racing and binkying which wakes me up around six thirty, I don’t have to worry about setting my alarm clock. However, when confined my rabbits rattle the bars of their NIC condo pretty good and that I couldn’t sleep through! (Will anyone ever invent the silent cage bars??)
I clean their litter daily, so the only smell I get is from the hay which I love.

We’re noise-sensitive too, so I turn on a fan every night. When it’s winter, I just face the fan away from the bed. It’s great steady noise that helps me fall asleep, and little bunny steps don’t wake us up

Lots of members here have mentioned having their rabbit set up in the bedroom. Some pictures I’ve seen, there’s been barely space for a bed because the room has been given over for the bunny!
Some have the bunnies sleep under the bed, or they run in at night and run all over the occupants in the bed while they’re asleep, or the bunny is is the bed ^ as lizzieknittybun said.
Definately a personal thing. Rabbits are very clean animals. Has your mum seen many house rabbits or much experience with them? House Rabbits are not all that common here.

Ah yes, Trix had woken us up on more than one occasion. It’s funny how I can sleep through the garbage men banging away at 3 in the morning, but that little “thump thump thump” of her going up and down the stairs woke me. And of course her jumping up on the bed and trying to get one of us to rub her head.

But that wasn’t too often. For the most part she would be peaceful through the night under our bed.

I sleep with 7 dogs, my ferrets night cage and my bunny in the same room lol. I have just enough space for my bed and table and a second pen for my future bun. I am a really light sleeper so sometimes Pacey wakes me up doing bunny 500’s around the cage or throwing things but it doesn’t really bother me at all.

There are no health risks with keeping your bun in your room if that is what your mom is concerned about… UNLESS you have allergies… in that case I would not keep the bun in your sleeping space.

The big concern, like everyone else said, is NOISE. For silent creatures, they can be LOUD when they get up and begin to play… as long as the noise does not bother you, and you spend a lot of time in your room with your bun, I think that set up is fine. If you are only in your room when you are sleeping, then I think the bunny might benefit from being kept in a family room or somewhere she will get more interaction. Whatever you do, don’t house your bunny outside, she needs to be inside with you and/or the family.

Pepper is free range and out of the whole apartment usually chooses to sleep under my bed.  I’ve put a couple of things under there for her to play with.  If I’m lying in bed reading she will usually hop up for a visit.

I don’t have a problem with the noise….. i seem to sleep through anything. When my fiance stays over everyone can hear him snoaring all over the house so I’ve learned to sleep through anything.

We had bunnies when I was about 7 and my sister was 3. My uncle gave us them for christmas. We ended up giving them away a few months later to some man who had a massive farm. I don’t really remember much of them though. Maybe my mum just remembers them and it wasn’t a good experience for her. But pancakes is a totally different breed to what they were. I will try and get a photo of them up soon. I’ll scan it tonight.

Breed is not going to matter as much as whether or not he’s neutered. In general, neutering will improve his litter habits, reduce the “skunky bunny smell” and hopefully make him less destructive.

Hammer and Lucy are in my room. 1) because they have no where else that I can be sure they wont be bother be the dogs and cats 2) thats where I spend most of my time. Id guess im in there 8 hours a day, so they get 8 hours play time. 3) I like them in my room, I think I can notice more quickly when something is wrong, and can bond more with them because if im home im always around them. So I see absolutely nothing wrong with sharing your room with bunnies, really its more Hammer and Lucy’s room then mine lol. They are loud and they do wake me up but I think the more set in stone my timing and routine is the more they recognize its bed time and are prepared for that. The days that they have been feed all their meals on time, kept to the same times for play and cage cleanings and bed time, are the days that they seem to be quieter at night. That doesnt mean they dont still wake me up sometimes, but its usually quiet until 6 am, then sometimes I have to just get up or use the ear plugs next to my bed.

Pancakes woke me up last night having a great fun tearing the newspaper lined on the bottom of her cage. Then If i wake up during the night i can hearing her eating etc etc i find it cute….. i sit in the bathroom at night for about half an hour just on the floor reading a book while pancakes runs around and she every night she sniffs me more. last night she was attempting to jump up on my lap…. just adorable.

Oh the little sounds bunnies make. My favorite is when Felony runs down my stairs… He’s kind of like his mother in that he’s back heavy. (Our momma’s blessed us with some junk in the trunk) Anyway, he gets going down the steps and his butt starts going faster than his front, so once he gets started he can’t stop until the bottom. It makes this really funny past patter down the steps.

The spazzy zoom steps are totally awesome. Remy likes to go to the kitchen, check things out, and then for some reason ZOOM back to me. Then he does it again. And again. It’s like a heard of the tiniest elephants!

Tearing newspaper I will not allow during the night…. another noise that I had to reserve for daylight hours only, was heavy-duty wood shredding. I find the smaller wood toys aren’t very noisy, so those are for at night.

..and then there were the bell toys…. also known as the bunny boredom alarm. Not at night! So maybe my bunnies find me to be a drag, but it is still MY bedroom and we have to get along for the long term.

I agree with BunnyLiz, the more solid the routines, the quieter the results. Night time is for hay eating, so I offer their major hay serving for bed time. Since they eat it all, it takes them a long time and then they tend to be full and quiet, maybe grooming.

Pancakes, I have bunnies in my bedroom much of the time (it’s not my preferred bunny-housing location because of the noise, but it’s the backup when I have one extra to house). I do notice that they make more noise (like shredding newspaper) when they haven’t had enough exercise during the day. You mentioned Pancakes’ “cage”–how big is it? Does she have enough room to run around? You may have mentioned this elsewhere, and I missed it (if so, I apologize!), but bunnies really would like 4’x4′ of space to run around in. Obviously, you don’t have to line the whole space with newspaper…just the litter box… Mine only get really destructive (ie, LOUD!) when they’re bored or looking for attention…thus, the pen-rattling everyone mentioned! Needy beasties! ;P
