so a few months back we got rid of our standard mattress bed to go for a memory foam bed.  my mother who is pretty skillfull when it comes to contruction and remodeling was going to make us a bed platfrom, but it took a couple weeks longer so my wife and i were sleeping on the mattress on the floor.  marvin and jessica were intrigued with the bed being so low and quite enjoyed coming onto the bed with the wife and i and socializing.  we were especially suprised when marvin was coming on the bed as well since typically if you even glance at him wrong he will take off down the hallway.

once the bed frame was finished both bunnies seemed to be dismayed that the bed was now so high up and not low to the ground.  jessica has no problem jumping onto the bed, she can clear just a little over 4 feet.  marvin on the otherhand cant jump nealy as high and actually missed a couple of times when trying to jump on the bed.  both the wife and i felt so bad because we could tell how bad he  wanted to come up on the bed.  so i did up a quick sketch and showed my mom my idea for a “bunny ramp”.  she took my drawing and got to work and what you see below is the result.  within 15 minutes of setting up the ramp both rabbits had been up and down the ramp half a dozen times.

Very cool! So your buns don’t pee on your bed? Everyone else here says that they love to pee on beds so I have been reluctant to even try!

very cool.  you could have even done a half platform… but the ramp is cool to.  do they actually go all the way down the ramp or do they jump to it and jump off?

ya know what i just thought of… *most* people would say “i just got a new mattress, no animals on the bed!”  but you make it easier for them to get on the new mattress and actually encourage it.  i think that’s awesome!

the only time either of my rabbits have peed on the bed was just after we got marvin. he had just been neutered a few weeks earlier got excited doing a binky on the bed and sprayed a little. both of my buns are litter trained and the only time the will pee outside of the litter box is to show their disapproval of something, otherwise they know better.

it didnt surprise me that marvin was making full use of the ramp, but I was surprised that jessica has been making use of it. jessica can get upon the bed silently and with little effort. when marvin jumps onto the bed (if he makes it) there is a very resounding “thud” like something has hit the floor

we also have a plywood castle that we made by using a cardboard castle as template. below is a shot from my personal webcam that i use to check on the my bunnies from work or on my phone.

Yeah I’m afraid to let mine on the bed because  I’m afraid he will pee (since he loves to pee on the couch as does most everyone else’s buns) and since I have to go to the laundromat to do laundry I don’t want to chance it but I would love it if he would play and not pee. Oh well. Maybe after his neuter?
