Bunny Proofing

  Hi all! I need a lot of help overall with my bun, but especially in the bunny proofing department. I got him about 3 months ago and he is supposedly 8 months old. He is not neutered due to the fact that when I took him about a month and a half ago to get fixed, I was told by the vet that he was not sexually mature yet and not ready to get fixed. With all that being said, everything was alright between us until two weeks ago, I went out of town and left him with my grandmother(who really dislikes him, poor thing).  I was gone about a week and when I came back, I heard he was depressed, not eating, etc. Since I have been back, I’ve been working on our relationship so that he can feel reassured by me. Lately, he has been very reckless and making a dive under the recliner chair. For obvious reasons, I have to figure out a way to keep him from going under there while also giving as much freedom as possible! Please let me know if there are anyways of bunny proofing the chair in someway to keep him from damaging the chair or even worse, hurting himself, thanks!

Hi Cocoa Puff,

You could try using NIC grids & attaching them together with cable ties. That’s what a lot of members do, and it really helps with blocking off areas of your room or preventing access to furniture. My Sam used to hide under the futon & it was only when I moved it a few weeks later I saw he’d completely torn up the carpet… oops >_< so yes, I'd highly recommend the grids to make a sort of gate for him. You could also try stuffing cushions under the recliner so he can't get underneath?

I used NIC grids as well, but after a month or so of using the grids with the zip ties, I decided to flip over my sofa and cut the grids in half and nail them right into the wooden frame. A less noticeable and permanent solution. I have also seen some people say that you can put heavy books under certain furnitures… even bricks… however I don’t know if any of these options will still leave you with a functioning recliner.

 Hmm, all of those sound like good possibilities! I’ll definitely give it a try, because under the recliner is my bun’s absolute favorite spot to relax and it’s just too much of a hazard. Thanks!
