Marble was neutered two days ago. He also lost his companion so he’s been grieving. About 5 hours ago he had large amounts of diarrhoea. Since then he’s only produced completely normal cecotropes (but hasn’t eaten them) and hasn’t pooped at all. He’s been to the vets and they’ve told us to take him off medication (antibiotics and pain relief).

He has had GI stasis before, could it be this again or something else? When he was in stasis he didn’t produce cecotropes last time.

The antibiotics can throw off the good gut bacteria levels in their tummies, so it might be a good idea for you to put him on a probiotic like Benebac while he’s recovering. Bombur has been on antibiotics a lot, so I’ve always got some Benebac on hand just in case. As for the cecals, what kinds of food has been eating since his neuter? When my boys were neutered last year, Bombur was only eating a handful of greens for the first few days and wouldn’t touch hay or pellets, which caused him to produce only cecals until the vet gave him some motility drugs/.

We have some BioLapis which I’ve mixed with a liquid feed to keep him hydrated. He’s eating better now, had some meadow hay, timothy hay, green oat hay, some dandelion bits and some bits of dried herbs. I gave him two long tummy massages as my vet showed me how to, and he’s pooped after both of them with normal poops and also some more cecals (although he was clearly in pain while passing). The cecals are completely normal – he’s been producing some very big ones that he hasn’t eaten, but he’s eating maybe half of what he’s producing. He was a bit hunched earlier, but things are slowly on the move and he’s lying down stretched out now.
