I have two strongly bonded Holland Lops, one male one female. Both are fixed and potty trained. The male is about 1.5 years old and the female is 1 year old. They have a big cage area, but every day we let them out to roam around the room that their cage is in. The female never drops poops when she is out of her cage, but the male is constantly dropping poops, especially in my shoe. Is this territorial pooping, and is there anyway that I can make it stop?

I did look at other people’s questions, but I didn’t see answers that were specific to my question.

        Thanks everyone!

          Hi
So yes, he is probably territorially dropping poops. I suggest you limit the size of the area they run around and he will learn that he needs to poop in the litter box and then after he learns, you can slowly increase the size of the area. And make sure you clean the room thoroughly like cleaning the floors with cleaner and remove anything that he has pooped in/on before so he won’t have the need to poop outside the cage.
          I hope that helps!

Thanks for the advice! I’ll try an x-pen set up and try putting his litter box really close to him. Hopefully it works!

Since you mentioned that they are already litter trained, I don’t think limiting the space etc would work as those methods are usually used to train bunnies who haven’t learned to poop and pee in a litter box yet. There’s no harm trying though

Stray poops are common even with a neutered/spayed and litter trained bunny. There’s no way to 100% stop it as far as I know.

Thanks for responding to my question. Unfortunately, the rabbit passed away very suddenly only hours after this post. The vet is doing an autopsy to figure out what caused it.
                Thank you.

So sorry for your loss. It’s so hard, especially when it’s suddenly like that.
