My house rabbit is wonderfully, gloriously potty trained with one exception. She likes to hide under my bed and poop under there. It’s super hard to clean and super annoying. I don’t mind her hiding under there, she’s welcome to and I’m glad she has that space, but I’m not sleeping on top of piles of poop. Is there anything I can do behaviorally to fix this before I resort to blocking off the area under my bed? My best guess is she does it because I can’t fit under there, and she assumes it’s her territory.

She’s decided that’s an okay place to go, which is natural as under the bed is a secure location that owners can’t readily see poops happen, therefore the behavior is indirectly reinforced. I would block the bed unless you’re capable of catching her consistently. After a while, you can re-give her access and potentially she’s decided against marking there again.

What if you put a litter tray under there that you could reach to clean and empty daily?

She actually does have a litter box right beside the bed. I couldn’t fit it under because the bed is so low. She is vey good about peeing in there, and I notice that her round poops typically make it there as well. But still, she covers the area under the bed with cecos. It’s odd.

Oh, it’s cecos. Is it only under the bed, or does she overproduce them in general?

If it’s only under the bed, then I wonder if because the bed is low she can’t do that bunny manouver to eat them straight away.

If she overproduces them in general, then it’s a dietary issue, and you might want to think about cutting down her vegetables or pellets, depending on her diet.

You shouldn’t really ever see the cecatropes. Occassionally mine leave one lying around, and I know once it’s squished into the wooden floor it’s a nightmare to clean!
