What’s everyone’s stance on bunny play dates between two buns (neutered and spayed, of course) that aren’t bonded and aren’t intended to be bonded? It kind of worries me….I think it’s be fun to hang out with someone and compare bunnies, but I feel like an interaction between the two buns would be pointless….or at least risky. What if they bonded? What if they fought? I don’t know. Are there any benefits to them? I ask because I have been asked to go on bun play dates several times, and haven’t formed a solid opinion on them. Is my uneasiness understandable? :/

Well I think you would only want to do this if you intend to find your rabbit a permanent mate not just for play dates.

I’ve never heard of play dates with other rabbits – heard of this with dogs before but not rabbits. I totally agree with you on this too…seems odd and pointless to me.

I would be more afraid of injury than anything. Not to mention the undue stress on the rabbits.

Okay. I’m glad that you agree with me on this. Thanks, Sarta.

Just going to ditto with you both. The danger is too great.

As someone who has bonded a pair successfully, let me tell you… those early interactions can be SCARY. Chasing, nipping, growling, fur flying…. not a pretty scene, and definitely not my idea of an easy, relaxing afternoon of “playing”!

That being said, it’s worth it to bond your own bunny with a permanent playmate, but that friend needs to be chosen carefully for the best match.
