        Hi All,

Our bunny Tig, who is 3 months old, does not have the best litter box habits.

We recently purchased a couple X Pens to give Tig some more space to run around when we aren’t able to fully supervise her.  She poops out in our living room all the time (usually all in one or two spots) and has also been peeing in the same spot each time.  We move her poop into her cage and we wipe up the pee with a paper towel and also put that in her cage.  We also wipe everything down with spray thats supposed to remove pet stains and odors.

Most things that I have read say to give our bunny less space. But being a baby who needs ample time to run around, we are hesitant to cut back on the space she has.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how we can correct her bathroom habits?

        Thanks!

        Justin

It’s hard with babies! Do you have plans to get her spayed? That should help a lot.

If she is always peeing in the same spot, she might do better with another litter box in that spot. Or even a puppy pee pad if a box doesn’t make sense in that area (like if it’s in the middle of the room). If the room is large she might not be inclined to go all the way back to her cage to pee. Scattered poops are territorial marking, piles of poops are just them having to poop. So the second would also prob benefit from an extra litter box.

            Thanks!

And yes we will get her spayed when she is old enough.  We were hoping to avoid having to go the route of an additional litter box but if she doesn’t start getting better soon we may give that a try and hope her habits improve in a few months after she is spayed.  Thankfully for us she prefers peeing on the hard wood floors rather than our rug.

I feel like she just doesn’t know that she’s supposed to be going in her litter?  An hour or so ago she peed out in the living room and as soon as she was done sprinted back to mess around with the blanket that is right outside of her cage.

It’s hard to know with young bunnies whether it’s territorial or they just don’t care LOL. It can also help to restrict her space to just her pen for a few days to see if that helps. I’ve also found carefresh litter to be really good for litter training, something about the soft texture makes bunnies inclined to pee on it.
