If your bunny is an out door bunny be very wary of summer temperatures. Rabbits are VERY prone to heat stroke and need to be carefully monitored during the summer months.

Check your rabbit often. Make sure you provide plenty of cool water and shade so they can regulate their body temperature. Also examine your bunny, are they panting more than normal? Are they drooling? If they are bring them into a cooler area immediately and apply a cool compress to the insides of their ears…call a vet if their condition does not improve.

I actually keep all my rabbits in an air conditioned barn to prevent such incidences–but even I check up on them often.

Here’s a good article with some extra info.http://www.adoptarabbit.com/articles/packet/heat.html

            Welcome LuvmyNetherland!

I’m sorry to hear about your bunny!  How sad. I am glad that you are looking to make sure that never happens again as it is very preventable.

            Regarding heatstroke prevention - https://binkybunny.com/Default.aspx?tabid=123

When you say confined – how confined?  And when you say stray – what do you mean kind of?

Is she going to be an indoor rabbit? Hope so!  We can really help you with this.

How old is she? Is she spayed?

Post a picture of her here - that would help with naming.   What’s her personality like?

I am so sorry about your bunny.  If you really live in a very hot area I would definitely consider buying a portable air conditioner.  They are not that expensive and when we had a few 100 degree days I really considered it. Where in California do you live?

welcome here. i am so sorry about your bunny.

it’s a common thing during the summer but you’ve gotten some great advice so far. i think the most important thing is keeping the bunny as an inside rabbit full-time. if you are comfortable inside your house, your bunny will be too. she’ll also be safe from predators, healthier, less lonely and more fun.

here is a great article about rabbits. it tells you a little bit of everything you need to know, along with links to other topics. i know you had your other bunny, but it does not hurt to brush up on the basics of bunny care.    http://www.rabbit.org/care/living-with-a-house-rabbit.html

if you have any other questions, please ask!

for a name, how about Amelia? i love people names for pets more than descriptive names…

                      For BinkyBunny

When I say confine she is in a hutch built for a dwarf but it is still kind of big

She had owners but they let her out and when I caught her they let me keep her

she isn’t an indoor rabbit at the moment but were working on it.

I think she is at least one year old but I am not sure.

She is not spayed in fact she might be pregnant she the was I loose male and they were hanging out all the time sowere just not sure about that.

I will get pictures on right away.

Hi & welcome. I am so sorry to hear of your buns death, but glad to see you are taking steps to prevent the same from happening again.

The second I saw her sweet face I thought Meadow.

Please try to make her a house bun ASAP. There are lots of ideas on this site for rabbit proofing and creating play spaces. Not to mention much easier to keep her cool and safe.

Hello, welcome to BB!   I agree – sweet looking bunny you have there!  I’m a bit biased because she’s similar looking to my Jersey!

That slide feature is great by the way. Glad this buns got a more secure home with you. You said shes so sweet so maybe you could go with the name of your favorite sweet/dessert/candy? Or something to do with Spring as that’s all about new beginnings and starting afresh.

What was the name of the netherland dwarf you lost? Maybe you could incoporate part of her name into the new bunnys name as a kind of memorial???

Somebody on the site let there own bun pick their name. They put the choices they liked on bits of paper and let the bun roam about until they picked one up!

What beautiful markings! She looks like a “Daisy” to me.
