Hi, this is my first time on this forum but I love what I see.  I have a 4 month old mini lop eared bunny and am super interested in getting him neutered.  I know a little bit from research but my fiancee and I are super nervous because we love him like a child and want him to be taken care of.  Is there anyone in the Greensboro NC area that can suggest a vet?  I have a ton of questions to ask a vet such as success rate and type of anestesia, etc….. any feedback would be welcome.

Have you been on the House Rabbit Society website? They have a list of rabbit-savvy vets http://www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html

Welcome! A longtime member just relocated to that area and was asking the same question. There are some links to lists of vets in this thread.

Neutering I think is a lot less invasive and less risky also than spaying. My rabbit was neutered at around 4 months (though I’ve recently thought maybe I should have waited another month or two to give him a chance to fully develop) and he was a bit POed after the surgery, that same day. But by the next day he was totally fine.

I had my mini-lop neutered at around 6 mts of age. I went on the house rabbit society website and there’s a list of questions there to ask your vet before the surgery to determine if they’re a good doctor. It’s an excellent resource! The neuter went really well; as Otti said it’s not as invasive.

Exactly. Welcome, and everyone here has inserted the most helpful links for you. Neutering is good for his health, good for his behavior and good for your lives together, so it’s great that you are actively looking for the best vet for your little guy.

A quick question that’s an easy test is to ask if your bunny should fast before surgery. The answer is NO. The bunny should eat normally in the morning and the night before, as well as throughout the day as usual until the appointment. Be aware that some vets don’t know they may have a receptionist who takes it upon themselves to answer important questions, and we have seen members have a good vet sabotaged by a staff member who wasn’t as knowledgeable. Please be sure to ask the vet to speak with you directly and listen to their answers. If you hear any contradictory information, but the vet seemed good, experienced and knowledgeable, let that vet know and feel free to proceed with the good vet.
