Bunny is afraid of rug with dog smells on it!

 My bunny Turbo loves to run around but hates my hardwood floors so I just bought a used Persian carpet.  Turbo refuses to go anywhere near it, and I just found out the former owners had two dogs and two cats, so their smells are probably all over the carpet.  

Any recommendations on what to do?  I’m not keen on professionally cleaning the carpet because it will probably cost more than the carpet itself ($100) because it’s huge (18′ x 3′).

Well, you could put vinegar and water into a spray mister and just mist the carpet all over. Let it dry, then vacuum. It should cut the odor in the carpet.

You can also sprinkle baking soda all over the carpet. Let it sit for a while (maybe a half hour) and then vacuum that up too. Use the deepest vacuum setting so it gets down into it. Baking soda absorbs odors. Both are natural and while they shouldn’t be ingested by bunnies, they should help clear up the smell with no real harm if accidentally tasted.

You can also rent the professional carpet cleaners from many places (Walmart, Lowes, Krogers (grocery store), etc) for really cheap ($20-$40 depending on the place). That would do a much deeper clean and then your buns probably wouldn’t mind it so much!

I was going to suggest this until I read it’s persian!! LOL OK guess it’s up to you.

Take it outside, and hose it. Use vinegar and rinse it with the hose-hang it over a railing to dry and it should be scary-dog-smell free

Urine supposedly fluoresces under ultra-violet light. So if you can get hold of (hire?) a UV light, you can use it in the dark and mark out the pee areas with chalk. Then you know where the cleaning need the most attention. I have never tried this, only read about it. From reports, it doesn’t fluoresce greatly so it might be tricky. Ditto, the others, sponge with vinegar (and 3% hydrogen peroxide) then blot dry. Sprinkle with bi carb to remove excess moisture and vinegar smell then vacuum up. There’s also a enzyme type cleaners for pet odours I think….like Nature Miracle.

If you guyz need something to get animal pee stains out of carpet I have one for you….

Here in the states we have OxyClean. You can buy it in powder form and it comes in a tub w/ a measuring cup in it. Take one measuring cup full of the OxyClean and place in a bowl. Then fill that bowl w/ VERY hot water and mix. It gets kinda bubbly. Pour directly onto the stain completely and give it a few minutes and then go back and scrub it w/ a clean towel. It may not look great after your scrub it BUT once it dries the stain is gone. EVEN works on old stains. My MotherInLaw does this when the buns visit at her house and leave a spot. Works perfectly!

Ok, this is a stupid question, but what’s the difference between a persian carpet and a regular carpet?
