My bunny is a purebred (not sure how much that matters with types of problems that can develop, I’d imagine it does..?) Holland Lop who recently turned 2, we adopted him when he was about 10 months, and yesterday and today he’s been doing something that I’m not sure is normal and can’t find any info about, so I’m worried it’s not.

He usually “digs” every now and then throughout the day which I know is normal, but now suddenly what he’ll do is dig somewhere, then stop and bang his teeth into the floor (we have wood floors), dig again, then bang his teeth into the floor again, and repeat for a minute or two until he feels like stopping?

He’s never done this before that we’ve seen or heard in the time we’ve had him, so I’m maybe a bit paranoid but figured I should ask some other bun parents if it’s normal or something to be concerned about/should I contact the vet?

He also seems to be grooming his upper hind leg a lot but I’m not sure if I’m just being a paranoid parent and over-analyzing everything because I’m worried about him. I checked for any matted areas and his fur was normal and soft, and I looked close for any visible fleas or ticks on him and couldn’t see any (he’s quite light coloured, so I think I’d probably be able to..?)

I took a look at his teeth and they don’t seem to have any issues or be longer than they’ve always been, and he still uses his chew blocks. Other than that, he’s eating and drinking normally and is still affectionate, and… Seems still his normal level of energy?

I’m mostly just getting all panicked about it because I couldn’t find anything about other buns doing that when searching around the internet for it.

Sorry for any spelling mistakes or parts that might not make sense, it’s actually 5:40 AM here and I haven’t slept so, whoops. Hope it’s still understandable. Thanks lots in advance.

Does it seem like he’s trying to bite the hardwood? That’s what it sounds like. Digging, followed by tugging at the spot, is a common behavior for Wick (wasn’t always; now is). It typically occurs on the bed when he can tug at the mattress cover after digging at it.

Yes, Icey used to do it all the time. We have wood floors throughout the house. She wasn’t banging her teeth on the floor, she was trying to bite it or grab it with her teeth. She would do the high speed scratch digging followed by trying to grab it with her teeth repetitively until she got tired of it. She would also try to grab the flat surface of the door with her teeth if it was closed and she thought it should be opened or wanted in. It sounds normal if this it what he is doing.
