So, today I let my bunny Cleo out to play. About an hour later, I went to give her a treat and I noticed her eye had begun to bleed at some point after I let her out. My mom just had to pay for our dog to have surgery today, so I feel bad asking her to take Cleo to the vet too. Obviously, if I have to I will. I do have about $500 saved up from a babysitting job.

I was just wondering if anyone else has any experience with this. If it’s something that can heal on it’s

own. I’m also really worried about infection. I rinsed it when I noticed but I feel like water isn’t enough, and obviously  can’t use soap. I read that eye drops are not an option.

        Any advice will help.

Does anyone know what a general vet bill would be for this?

          Update:
My mom and I just rinsed her eye one more time before bed to help prevent any infection.

Cleo is acting like her usual self. I gave her some lettuce for being good and she’s eating it.
She still gets excited over hay and chews her little log hut. And she still has her normal love hate relationship with me. (She only likes me when she wants treats or to be pet. And that’s actually progress. When I got her, she didn’t like people at all. I’m even allowed to pet her nose now without getting attacked. Sorry I always go off topic because I’m proud of her for becoming more friendly)

Shes going to need to see a vet. Eye wounds can very easily get infected and the rabbit can go blind or even need surgery if you wait too long. Its best to see a vet asap for proper care and treatment. While shes being vetted, check any and all objects in her area that are around her height that couldve cut her eye.

Oh my… poor baby. Mikey is right, definitely take her to the vet. Hope it’s not too serious.

Is the blood actually in her eye? From that picture, it looks like a torn nictitating membrane (third eyelid). If that’s the case, your vet will probably give you some antibiotic eye drops. If it doesn’t heal or continues to cause a problem, the vet can surgically remove the torn piece.

Poor thing, her eye is bleeding, she definitely needs to see a vet.

One of my bunnies got a scratch on the top of his eye – we took him to the vet immediately, but unfortunately our bunny specialist wasn’t there, so the regular vet looked at it, said the eye wasn’t damaged and it would probably be fine by itself. The next morning we woke up and it was full of pus (so 12 hours after the original visit) – rabbits eyes really get infected very very easily and quickly and we should have been given antibiotics immediately. This is why it’s important that you get antibiotics and possibly painkillers.

His two vet visits and antibiotics cost about £100, but it would have only been about £70 if we had been given antibiotics the first time.
