        Hi,

Over a year ago when Bambi and Cinnamon were outside buns Bambi started honking/grunting at feeding time. Cinnamon does a little happy dance and she would chase after him honking.  When I moved them into the house last year it got worse.  A few months ago she bit me and my husband (once each in a weeks time) when we put food bowls down.  All of this only happens when I bring the food bowls into their pen. Sometimes she runs after Cinamon honking and hits him with her front paws, or she will stand up and knock the bowl out of my hand.   Is there anything I can do or give her to calm her down? Some days are worse than others, not sure why.

        Thanks,

        Laura

You could try letting them out of the pen first, and while they are running around put down the food bowls. That way the food will already be waiting when they go back into the pen.

Are they spayed/neutered? I am wondering if you are hearing sexual frustration?

I can relate. I have a “honker” too. My girl, Olivia, honks and growls whenever I touch her stuff. It’s an aggressive thing but I find it’s such a funny noise. Sorry I’m not helpful to you though

It may be excitement over dinner time. My female mini rex gets very excited when it’s time to eat, so if she is too “in my face” about it, I will wait to give her the food, pet her head for a few moments, get her relaxed, and then give them their dinner.

                  They are both fixed.

I think it is excitement too. I don’t mind the honking, it’s when she goes after us or Cinnamon with her front paws that concerns me.

Thanks so much for your replies.

If she is getting too aggressive, you might even try to dominate her for a few seconds by placing your hand over her head and holding her down gently.

I think I will do that Beka. I just don’t like how she goes after Cinnamon with her front paws and grunting. She even does this when I put them back in their pen at night; they ALWAYS come running for their treat and I can’t hand it to Bambi anymore, I have to drop it or she will take my finger with it. Thanks again.
