Hey guys. Today has been a horrible day for me. As most of you know I was planning on getting 2 boy “Bonded” bunnies on Friday next week. This morning, the lady who was fostering them called my dad and said they got in a big fight and had to be separated. They were supposedly fixed, or so the rescue thought, after they were dropped on the rescues door step. Now the rescue thinks that are now coming of age to when behavioral problems come into play and they are reevaluating the age of the rabbits after they were said to be 8 months old. The fosterer is taking the 2 in on friday to the vets office.

I am in total shock, sad and crying after this happened. The lady said she didn’t think we would want fighting bunnies, and now… I just don’t know what to do.

There are no more rescues within 3 hours of us that have any bunnies. There is breeders and the pet store that we have to choose from now. Which means we will have to get babies fixed unless something can be done…. How easy is it to get 2 baby bunnies fixed and bonded? i need more info on this… I already read the “bonding bunny” section, and It seems super complicated. Please don’t post any links to bonding ideas or anything as right now I want your opinion and what you have done.

If you have 2 bunnies, tell me how you bonded them or what you did… I just want to know some peoples background stories to what they did for their bunnies.

Well this really does belong in the bonding section so I am going to move it there as that is the advice you are asking about.

I would really just recommend you read thru some of the bonding threads. Our members here do a good job detailing the process and what works/doesn’t work for them. It’s not realistic to ask people to completely rewrite what they’ve already written in their individual bonding thread. If you have more specific questions, you can post those here… Also keep in mind that every bonding experience will be different.

I’ve been reading bonding threads and going back pages to get an idea.
I have an un-neutered male and neutered male

All I suggest is you can still get them, but they have to be neutered/spayed. wait 4-5 weeks, keep them in separate pens while the hormones disappear, then you can start bonding.
It’s frustrating, and I’m overwhelmed some days, having unbonded rabbits…but it’s what I have to deal with until Rodan is hormone free.

                Hey BRM,

I’m sorry to hear about your bunnies fight =( I’ve had issues similar to yours and hopefully I can kind of help you out. I couldn’t bond my bunnies until my male (Usagi) was fixed (for mating and behavioral reasons), but after that I introduced Usagi and Kimiko slowly. The first day I only let them together for about half an hour (supervised), the next day an hour, and so on. It took awhile for them to be bond because Kimiko is not spayed and tended to bully Usagi. It took about a month-2 months for me to feel comfortable leaving them alone together. Even after they bonded they still needed separate cages to kind of escape each other and have their own space. They now have their own area to run around and play in while I’m at work, but I have their cages open so they don’t feel like they have to always be together.

Getting Usagi neutered was actually a pretty easy procedure, but I really did my homework on the vets in the area before taking him. I believe he was only in there for a night or two (it’s been quite awhile). It was $120 to get it done, which is pricey, but very worth it =)

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me (especially if it sounds like I’m rambling, I’ve had a lot of coffee today XD)
