hi in the last week my poor bun got an eye infection. We went to the Exotic Pet Vet which is half was across town and we were told she it was injured by something external, which meant something went in and scratched up the surface of her eye. We were given antibiotics and an eye cream which we were to put in 3 times daily. Her condition got worse so we took her back, they told us she was in a lot of pain and gave us some pain killers as well. After a few days she started to show some progress she had her normal eating habits back and started to move around more, THEN WE TOOK HER BACK. I went in with a positive attitude just to be told her condition has worsened, apparently the bacteria or virus has spread to her other eye (right eye) and my vet didn’t know what it was. He has no idea what it is and how to treat it, then he tells me it’s best to see an eye specialist after I’ve sprang almost $500 already on them just to find out they misdiagnosed her from the beginning and now can’t help me any further.

My bunny is 1year 8months, her name is Chance and she is a Netherland Dwarf. She hasn’t been spayed but she’s had all her shots.
Her right eye (new to the infection) has a weird blue tinge in it, and some white discharge but otherwise is the same as usual (Brown/black). Her left eye which started off the infection is blueish, and white mucus covers it. I can’t still see there is the dark brown behind the blueish/whiteness. She’s still moving around, having a bit of trouble though, and has lost her confidence. She’s eating normal, and drinking heaps of water also, which is good.

Has anybody had this same problem or know anything that this could possibly be?

The blueish whiteness is often associated with the formation of cataracts, but for it to happen so quickly and spread from one eye to the other is unsettling. I don’t know what to tell you besides to seek out another rabbit savvy vet. Bumping this in the hopes someone can help.

Sounds like EC to me. Has your vet considered treating for that?
