Bunny Emergency Kit

Just wondering if any of you have a Bunny Emergency Kit, and if so, what do you keep in it? Maybe if everyone contributes what they keep on hand, I can’t make my own kit out of the ideas.

Is there a link somewhere for a kit like this?

I do

I keep
–critical care (you have to watch the expiration date on that though)
–Gas medicine (Ovol)
–a plastic digital thermometer (bun temp is 99-102 normally, good to know what temp your bun runs at normally though, so take it and record it -its anally so use a bit of vaseline and *please* warm the tip up plastic so it can’t break!!)
–Prep H for sore hocks
–Vet wrap for any wounds
–E collar from the vets office
–Rescue Remedy
–Polysporin

I keep Simethicone on hand….but thankfully have never had to use it yet. 

I thought about buying some Critical Care to have on hand (my vet clinic/work does not keep it in stock) but I know there are other clinics about 30 minutes away that I can buy it from.  The expiration date was the main reason I have not bought any.  If I could not drive and get it- had to order and ship it- then I would have some on hand.

One thing that I would recommend having on hand since bunnies are notorious for sensitive eyes (in my opinion) is a bottle of saline eye wash- just plain old stuff you buy from the pharmacy.  Obviously you have to decide when is approp to use- but I have it on hand (and have never had to use it) for my active dogs.  But if it looks like your bunny has a external eye irritant- i.e dust or hay- you can wrap your bunny in a towel and rinse the eye/face.

I will try to think of other things that would be useful in a pinch.

Thankfully I live in a larger area that has 24 hour grocery stores 5 minutes from home.  But where I grew up- there was nothing open after 10pm except gas stations and liquor stores.

Oh and a tip! If you put the critical care in the freezer it extends the date about 6 months. We got some when Boston had head tilt but she started getting better before we had to use it.

I’m not positive the shelf life, but i think its a few months at best.

I keep a GI Statis Emergency kit which has simethicone, mineral oil, different sized syringes, carrot baby food and a GI Statis Emergency To Do List.

i believe the critical care shelf life is 6 months or 1 year in the freezer… this would also depend on where you got it tho, how long it had been there. can this still be ordered from oxbow or not b/c of the updates to the website…?

is polysporin the same as neosporin? is it an ingredient difference or just a name difference?

I got my Critcal care from oxbow but it was a while ago, so i dunno if you still can..

Beka Polysporin and neosporin are the exact same thing; Also you can buy generic ‘triple antibiotic cream’

Critical care can be ordered from the site (just email them if the ordering isn’t working they’ll do email orders too, and if you’re outside the shipping area, they’ll only do your order through email).

Also a good idea (watching expiry dates as well) is to have some baby food (pumpkin/squash) and pedialyte on hand. That’s excellent if they stop eating!
