Please help, my bunny got electrocuted! i woke up in the middle of the morning like at 4 and heard my bunny squealing and doing excessive movement, at first i thought she was having a seizure until i discovered she had chewed on a big cable (my room is bunny proofed but she somehow got near a cable and i have no idea how, but i’ll be extra careful from now on) i ran as quickly as possible to her and she had done like a flop with her eyes open and she wasn’t moving then she closed them so i started caressing her and shaking her to wake up, i honestly thought she had died because she didn’t move for about 30 sec but then she did, she stayed still for a while and didn’t move and then she started to move a bit more, i offered her food she didn’t eat but 15-20 min have already passed and after caressing her she seems to be back to normal, she’s stomped like 2 times at the place she got electrocuted but she is moving around and she’s eating her pellets i offered her and now she is laying on her side, i’m going to the vet in the morning when they open but do you think she’ll be okay? she doesn’t seem to have burned flesh or burned fur from what i can tell but i’m not an expert so i’m going to the vet, when i get there what do you think they’ll do? also my bunny is 3 weeks in recovering from her spay, do you think that the electrocution will affect that? Also unrealated but they just approved the bunny vaccine for rhdv, should i vaccinate her now or wait since she just got electrocuted and healing from spay?

It’s wise that you’ll be taking her to the vet. There’s  not a lot you an do now since she is eating and acting seemingly normal. Hopefully she’ll be ok, but the vet should check for burns inside the mouth.

As for vaccinaation you should ask your vet. A spay normally takes 2 weeks to fully heal.

IKEA has cable covers called Rabalder. There are many other brands and makes of cable covers. It’s always wise to have cable covers on all cables.

That must have been very scary for you, I’m glad that your rabbit survived the shock. In terms of injury, burns around and in the mouth are pretty common. It seems like she received quite a decent shock so there’s potential for internal injuries to organs, a blood test may reveal that but it could also be too early to show anything like that.

Definitely visit the vet when they open, and keep a close eye on her over the next couple of weeks, any loss of appetite (especially if her mouth is free of burns) could be quite concerning.

I wouldn’t expect her spay to be affected as it’s had time to heal. I agree about asking your vet regarding vaccination, but I always prefer to be cautious and make sure my pets are healthy when they receive vaccines to prevent extra stress on the body.
