Hi guys, so on quite a few occasions I have seen Peanut with a fur clump in his mouth. I assumed that it was perhaps from where he’s eating his cecals and the fact that he’s moulting. I caught him with a clump a little while ago and again just now. Luckily I am able to pull it off and out of his mouth (he doesn’t even flinch which is odd given how timid he is!) I would have thought tho that if he was just trying to grab his cecals, he’d eat those and leave the fur so I’m a little confused. Can anyone shed light on this? He gets hairy poops quite often, as I said, he’s moulting and won’t tolerate being groomed (yet) and this clump eating won’t help!

Is it possible hes pulling out his loose tufts because of his shedding? My Badger does this if you tickle him in a spot where he is shedding; he will pull the loosened fur right out and then stare at me like its my fault for tickling him

I think that’s what he’s doing but then he actually chews it  He doesn’t get a chance to swallow it as I grab it but I’m not sure if he does this during the night too – if he is, he’s ingesting a lot of fur!

My guess is he’s not chewing it but trying to get it out of his mouth. That happens to my Bindi sometimes.

I suppose that would explain why he just sits there and let’s me take it then! Phew

I suppose used to see Lancelot pull out the loose tufts as well. The hair gets stuck in the mouth from saliva, and they lick and spit and “chew” to get if out of their mouth. I haven’t seen Guin do it, but hen her fur doens’t moult in clumps, it just comes out one million at a time…..

That must be what it is then. It’s strange, I’ve never seen Buttercup have this issue but then Peanut is moulting 24/7!

Yeah, Lancelot is the only one I’v seen do it. I think I barely even realized it until a few posts ago… The other 3 don’t have trouble getting their fur off. But it does get into Lancelot’s mouth, and it’ s as if he is saying “eew yuck silly fur get out of my mouth”.
