Hi! I just wanted to get opinions on something my vet mentioned. Bun dad took Mikey to the vet Thursday because he stopped eating, slight tilt and balance issues, as was lopping one of his ears (he’s not a lop). Turns out he has a yeast infection and inflammation in his ears (I have been out of town and he’s a mama’s bun, so we don’t think his moping helped either). We were given drops and metacam; even after 4 days he’s improved a ton so I’m pretty confident in our treatment of that unless something changes. My vet tried to clean his ears out as much as she could but he doesn’t hold still well. She suggested possibly sedating him sometime in the future and doing a thorough cleaning of his hears. She also mentioned this at the buns’ first checkup, for my other bunny, Andy. Both had extremely severe ear mites when they were rescued (to the point they weren’t expected to live), so none of the ear wax or debris from that was ever cleaned out. Any thoughts on this procedure?

We aren’t doing this unless recurrent ear infections are a thing, but I wanted some thoughts and opinions on sedating for this? Andy can probably only have one ear done anyway because one ear is sort of disfigured and the canal is nearly closed from scar tissue. I do know the wax bothers him though, the vet cleaned a bunch out his first visit and he stopped messing with his ears as much. Just seems like a lot to go though with 2 buns if it’s not overly necessary.

Thanks for any advice or thoughts!
