Some of you might remember my recent wonderings about bunny bonding, and a possible search for another bunny for Dutchess. Well tonight my mom and I went to the humane society for a few bunny dates, and they were very informative in letting us know that now is NOT the time for another bun-bun!
Date #1: A rhinelander female, 11 months, spayed. She was HUGE! In her desc. on the humane society page it listed her as 4 pounds, but she was at least 7 or 8 and twice Dutchess’ size in person! She refused to let the lady catch her, and was wiggly and antsy and altogether not what her desc. described her to be, and she wasn’t too friendly with Dutchess. She did lay down and put her head down towards Dutchess, but my little diva had none of that and wouldn’t touch her. So we nixed that match.
Date #2: A dwarf male, 2 years, neutered. A little smaller than Dutchess, it took him all of two seconds for him to attack her! She retailiated, but he humped her butt, the lady pulled him off. He humped her face, lady pulled him off. Then he bit her and pulled out a chunk of her fur to my mom’s squealing and jumping and lady pulled him into her arms for a time out. Needless to say, she didn’t let him back down, and he was nixed.
Date #3: Hotot mix, 2 years, spayed. Dutchess at this point was not happy, and a little growly. She peed a bit on the towel on the floor to mark it. A little larger than Dutchess, this was by far the best of the three. No fights here, the two just sat together on the little towel. The bunny put her nose by Dutchess’ side and sort of laid there, and Dutchess sat there for a while, then groomed her own little self. Then neither really moved for about five minutes.
For some reason none of the rabbits there really appealed to me, I suppose maybe I’m spoiled by the Dutch breed now, but they all looked a bit too wild like for me, and Dutchess has very rounded features.Right now she’s sitting under the computer table a few feet from my feet, looking altogether exhausted and happy to be home. We called it quits at that, and decided that if ever a bunny bonding is in our future, it will be when Dutchess and I are living in our own place, not with my parents, and after much searching and multiple dating episodes.
