bunny condo flooring

I ordered a bunny condo for my little Liela because I want her to have a bigger cage and she’s been having a lot of trouble with potty training, so I want her to have a big space I can keep her in most of the day until she gets the potty training down. the parts comes in the mail today or tomorrow (the storage cube type), and I wanted to know what other people use for the flooring of it? I don’t want to put it right on my hard wood floor, and when i google image searched bunny condos, i found this image and its the exact size mine will be and i think that flooring would be great, but does anyone know where i could find it? http://farm1.static.flickr.com/149/383832312_bbf6bf63b6.jpg?v=0

does anyone else have any other flooring suggestions? when she’s good, she pees in her littler box, but still always poops next to it instead of inside of it. in her cage she has now it has a drop box below the small wire floor, i would love to find something like that too maybe?

I believe coroplast (sign board material) is often used. YOu can get this at plastic suppliers, possible sign shops, craft shops or even hardware maybe. If you want to do something like the picture, maybe try vinyl that’s larger than the condo base and wrap it up the outside a bit. That should help keep hay and stray poop etc inside the pen.

I know some people have used vinyl flooring and some have used the coroplast (though it’s a little harder to track down, I think). For my NIC condo I cut pieces of Masonite (the kind with the small holes in it – pegboard would probably also work) to fit each level and then secured them with zip ties. I also have metal rods running underneath the Masonite to keep it sturdy.

I think any sort of non-porous, flat material would work. Let us know what you decide!

I have Bun on vinyl and Indy’s cage is coroplast. I’ve given Bun 2 towels that she loves to scootch around and seagrass mats so she really isn’t on the linoleum that much. The linoleum was 80 cents a square at Home Depot, so it’s really cheap and cleans off well incase of messes. Coroplast is a little more difficult to find and I think the lino works just as well. It depends really if you want the lip around the cage to keep the mess in, depending what you do with hay, etc.

What size liter tray does she have? I would try using a large one with hay and her food dish in one side of it. Worked like a charm with Indy and he’s been good since. I saw stray poos around his cage…once I put his food dish in the liter tray…99.9% of poo was now in the liter box.

We just built a bunny condo and got an entryway waterproof mat– the type they put in public buildings to wipe your feet on.  It has a dense wool-like fiber in stipes, but we flipped it over and used the underside under our condo.  It seems to be working well so far.  Its slightly textured, so its not too slippery and because the underside (upper side as it was designed) is carpet, the mat is pretty cushiony.  It wasn’t as cheap as some of the other options, but it was easy to cut with a utility knife and we should be able to re-purpose it if we ever stop using it under the condo.  The only downside is a row of letters stamped by the manufacturer– but we don’t even notice that. 

We got it at Home Depot (Internet/Catalog # 100676934). The first picture is from their website.  The second is in our condo/pen– two mats arranged perpendicular to each other.  The third shows the numbers (and my two favorite guys).   Hope it helps!

Additionally, we added a 14″ high perimeter of cloroplast at the floor level of the condo on the rear 3 sides — to help keep the mess from getting behind the cage where I can’t reach.

Abigail, thanks for posting about that. Such a neat solution. I currently have vinyl in the bunny room installed upside down but I’ve been looking at mats etc for some softness for my rabbits to land on. I think using a mat such as you have will be my solution. Everything I considered so far was a prob as I envisioned forever washing it but putting it in upside down will help.
