Well tommorrow we will be moving daisy inside.it is a old toy box that is plastic and about

3 or 4 inches thick. We are using this temporary untill we save up enough money for a pen.

Does anyone have any tips for me?and is there any way I can tell if she is hot or cold?

If she has the water bottles she’ll probably just lay up against them if she’s too hot in which case you can just watch them and take them out and replace them if they begin to melt. If she’s too cold you can leave a blanket or towel in one corner for her to snuggle into! My buns love flopping themselves down on towels around the house. Makes a good play toy also!

When you bring her inside, just watch her reactions and if you have questions then just post the question on BB and I’m sure someone will come along to answer it right away if you’re not sure she is comfortable! So happy for you and your bun! Being inside together is so rewarding. And I bet you two will become so much closer now that she’s going to be with you and have human interaction so much!

Also, I think I read in one of your threads that your house is kept at about 70-75 degrees? That’s a perfect temperature for your bun once she adjusts to the temperature of the house. If anything, I think right now you’ll only need to worry about keeping her cool until her body becomes used to the heat.

The toy box looks to be one of those “Little Tykes” thick plastic toy boxes. It’s definitely not an appropriate cage for longer than a day or so. Can you get some NIC grids for the interim and just make a basic 2×4 pen until the real xpen arrives?

Oh my. Definitely not appropriate for longer than a few days. It’s a start to at least bringing her inside but she’ll need something different. It also looks extremely small from the pictures — how big is it? Your bun is a good 6-9 pounds if I remember correctly. If so, I’m pretty sure that toy box is way too small for her.

The toy box is 36 by 26 inches. But she is only in it at night and on really cold days.

Well we have soft wood floors ( wood that her pee would soak into) so I was thinking about lettinf her free range after she is littered trained, but she is not fixed either. So I was going to wait after she pees and poos today to let her hop around out LONG hallway It is almosr 45 feet long

You will have a very hard time litter training her unless you get her fixed. Are you planning to have that done? If you don’t, there is a huge chance she will get cancer by the time she’s 3 or 4. How old is she?

It’s going to be hard litter-training her when you’re constantly dragging her from one spot to all these different places. On top of not being spayed, this will only make litter-training more difficult. You need to give her a set area like all of us have discussed with you.

I agree with Tanlover, I think you should let your parents have a look at this thread.

What if you got something to cover the floor? Blankets, towels, etc? That way the wood wouldn’t be damaged but Daisy will still have time out and not be in a toy box. Your making progress by bringing her inside the house, but that toy box just won’t do for long at all. Didn’t you mention that you had a small cage? Could you post a picture of that? Maybe you could get 2 baby gates and block off a section of the hallway and house her there temporarily with blankets on the floor for protection? Is that a possibilty?

Another thought for floor-covering is an area rug. We use one over our living room rug for Nibs’ Xpen. It has a rubberized backing, so if he has an accident (or an “I’m cranky and I’ll show you!” on-purpose), it doesn’t soak through to the carpet. When we’re doing a major vacuuming, I can just roll it up to take outside for a good shaking to remove any hay bits and if it ever gets too stained or tattered looking, they’re frequently on sale if you aren’t picky about colors/patterns.

My parents know about this and read this. And my bunny goes in her cage for about 5 hours. So she can get fresh air outside.

There isn’t much air ventilation since its solid plastic sides with a lid. Even though the lid is not tight, there still isn’t much going in and out. The bottom of the toy box probably isn’t flat either. If I remember them correctly at least. So it probably isn’t too comfortable in there. Just think if the roles were reversed. If you were a rabbit you would’nt want to be locked in a toy box. Like others have said, it would be ok for a day or two, but by the sound of things, you won’t be getting an xpen for a while.

A toy box really is NOT an acceptable house for a rabbit. You really need to take the advice of everyone on the forums and really show your parents what is necessary to house your rabbit.

It’s 48″ tall which is actually quite tall, mine is 42″ (blue) and plus it’s pink! Free shipping and only 60$, but since you said she is not litter trained it can be hard to keep her in something like that, I would recommend and XL dog crate but I found it to be too small with my 4.5lbs (roughly) holland lop, even with a second shelf. And the good thing about those pens is that each pen is 28″ instead of 24.” Just giving you an option that’s relatively cheap!

You can build a huge cage out of the cubes. With two boxes (about $30-$40) of the cubes you can make a 6ft by 4ft cage that’s over two feet tall. This is all it took to make my cage

1) Two boxes of wire cubes from target ($30.00)
2) One piece of plywood cut into a base, and two shelves ($14.00)
3) 4 Wooden Dowels for holding the shelves up ($7.00)
4)2 bags of 100 ct Zip Ties ($4.00)
5)Enough flooring to cover the base ($13.00)

I am not building inclined at all and it was super simple. There are some great instructions in the “Great Habitats” section.

You’ll need a lot of zipties too, which you could also get at Home Depot while you’re there. There are inexpensive and extra is always better. I am also not very handy at building things and the cube cage was super easy. You could make it any shape you need it to be and always can add on or change if you’d like.
