i was looking at buttons cage today and really thought it could use some cleaning. not too long ago i cleaned and dumped the tray under the wire that catches stray poops, so that didnt need anything done. i vaccumed the wall, sides and corners of his cage. they was a lot of yucky stuff, and poo stuck in there as well as hair. i vaccumed his dishes and toys too. its  too cold to completely wash the cage. i usually wash it with a mild bleach soution about mid-summer. i remodeled his cage so now it smells fresh and is different. is it good to change up their habitat once in a while? since his neuter and he started living inside i have learned so much about his personality. he likes toys only made of card board, loves to play, is actually a pretty quiet rabbit. nothing like he used to be. we love it! he doesnt even spray at all. well worth the money we used to get him fixed. anyway, do you have any ideas for his cage, making it more interesting or cleaning it up? i think it looks really good now that i cleaned everything though. it smells clean even     his cage is huge so there is room for everything. i will upload pics son. currently he has a cardboard box, a flat box, a foot resting mat thing, a oatmeal box, a brick, a hanging toy with 2 types of salt licks, food and water, a stuffed banana toy and a litterpan. any suggestions?

It’s easier to make suggestions after seeing the pix. It sounds like it’s going really well. some bunnies find changes stimulating and help avoid boredom. Others are deeper creatures of habit and don’t like it. they have their ways of letting you know. they either push things back to where they want them, or make a mess until you put it all back. Otherwise, if it stays, they like it.

If you make any changes, I would probably leave the litterbox and food alone. That might be too confusing. Some buns don’t like changes and that can throw off litter habits. Cages can get very messy, even with littertrained buns. Bits of fur will get stuck in every crack and crevice, so it’s good to do a very thorough cleaning every once in awhile.

the best “full view” i could get.

the front of the cage, left side

               middleish section of the cage

right side, with buttons posing in it

buttons really seemed to like having changed around!!!! yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you should make a jellyfish for him! It is on the toy test part of this site!

Also if you ever wanted him to come out of his cage to play, you could get a pen and a little staircase for dogs so that he can get out of his cage (your cage is on legs isn’t it?). But I can’t tell – does your cage have a side door? Or is there only a top door?

Also for ease of cleaning I actually find grates harder to clean – I have one on my litterbox and it is a pain to clean, but I have to have one because Fern digs the litter. You could take out the grid or put something like coroplast or linoleum over it, just a suggestion.

Looks nice and clean now though!

and definitely switch away from the pine shavings, they can cause some serious respiratory issues in bunnies.

yea, i remember i made the jelly fish for him last summer and i hung tons of newspaper strips on it. it was a major hit. he loved it. he had so much fun ripping and tearing at it i should make him another moonlightwolof—he has just been getting supervised playtime, when i can watch him. but he does have a side door, so i really like your idea of gettting him more excersize thorough a playpen. i keep looking but i cant find any for under 60$. its crazy. i dont have that kind of money. im searching on craigslist too. no luck. the cage is on legs.

i do own horses. 3 actually. 2 are my moms and 1 is mine. technically. but i think they should all be mine tehehe

Yea I bought a really cheap one from foster and smith – it was like 20 dollars ( bought 2 and put them together cuz it was kindof small) But now it is like 40-50 dollars sheesh! But then I bought a more fancy one with a door that I use now – it looks better and has a door I can open. I bought that one with a gift card.

If you see a good deal don’t pass it up because I am really glad I didn’t pass up the offer on the 20 dollar pen (I still use it for if I want to bring the bunnies outside or into the living room to play video games with me.)

Yea I too have to make another jellyfish – I still have the cardboard with holes in it at the top of the bunnies cage – I just don’t feel like refilling it.
