My question is is this a really dirty bunny butt? I went to my vet for his eyes about a month ago and idk if they check their butts too. I dont feel like going back to the vet but noticing his butt gets poopy more and more. its kind of been like this for a bit and I cant give him a bath on my own. the red part kind of has always looked like that after he got neutered but I cant tell if its like bad if I should bring him to vet or just leave it? I try to give him less treats so his poops come out better and he doesn’t get dirty like this but this has been for awhile so idk if I should cut some fur off or what!

I approved your post, but I’m not sure what your question is.

It looks like you edited your post. From what I can see, his butt is a little messy. But it isn’t terrible. It looks more like he’s just been sitting in dirty litter. Does he hang out in his litter box a lot? If he’s in a clean environment then this level of dirtiness will likely resolve on its own. What kinds of treats are you giving him? Even if they are “healthy” treats, bunnies can still get stomach upset if they get too many of them.

It looks like he has some calluses on his feet. What type of flooring does he have?

Thanks for responding! He’s had those calluses for years. They used to be worse and when they first started we took him to the vet and I can’t remember what they said but it’s been nothing to worry about. I do feel bad when I see them but he seems to be fine. I don’t have any bedding in his cage. And then he has an entire room to roam in which is carpet. And yeah he does kinda hand out in his litter for maybe 5 minutes sometimes which is strange so you’re right maybe that’s why. The treats I give him are pellets and a biscuit made with hay and apple and I only give pellets 2x a day and lately have been not giving as much, and lately only one biscuit a day so his diet is mainly hay.

Hmm… it doesn’t sound like he’s eating anything inappropriate. What kind of litter are you using? Some don’t absorb moisture as well as others. If you’re not already using a pelleted litter (Yesterday’s News, Feline Pine, Wood Stove Pellets, etc.) then you could try switching to see if it helps.

I think you may be on to something with the litter box idea. When I first got Cooper his bum looked just like that, because he was eating so much hay from his litter box at the shelter that he ended up sitting on the wet litter by the morning (they would just fill the litter boxes with lots of hay and dump the whole thing daily). He is looking much cleaner these days with pelleted litter.
