I am feeling so guilty! Tomorrow I have to drop Rocky off at the vet to have him boarded for 3 nights… It’s his first stay away from us since we brought him in Last April 22nd. The really sad thing is that I’m going to have to board him again for 10 nights at the end of the month so this is more like a trial run, too! I am lucky because my vet (who only treats cats and rabbits) will board him at her office, which is great, but am feeling so sad for Rocky! He has a small litter box in his ‘house’ but never uses it, he actually holds his pee and poops until we let him out in the morning and again in the evening when we get home from work and then he uses his big litter box… I’m afraid he won’t know where to go so I’m going to take his main litter box with him and have them put that in his cage where he’ll be for the weekend. Do you guys think that he will figure it out? I’m afraid he will hold it and not know where to go and then make a mess  The vet’s office has told me that I can bring anything I’d like with me and I have seen the cage he will be in, which is actually a little larger than his everyday cage at our house (which is plenty big for him trust me)! Any suggestions or ideas to put me at ease?

        Thanks in advance, everybody!

I think you should bring his litter box from home – I don’t think he will hold it in – if he has to go he will go. Also don’t worry about the mess – I’m sure the vet’s office understands and expects these things as it is probably stressful for the animal (no matter what). I love that he will be at the vet’s so if something happens he has care right there without any worry for you.

I would take a shirt or blanket that you’ve worn or slept in and put it in the cage with him so that he will have something to snuggle with that smells like you. I bet that will be a great comfort to him!

It sounds like your vet is great and will take really good care of Rocky.

I read that wrong..I thought it said you were boarding Rocky for 3 months! Ack!

Rocky will do ok. Bunnies get so much attention from people in general. So you know the staff will be in there talking to him, petting him and giving him loves knowing he will be a little scared. Just make sure he has all his favorite toys, if he has a favorite blankey, and like Lizzie said, sleep with something so you can leave him with something that will have your scent on it so he knows you are coming back.

At least there will be no dogs barking! At my vet they board dogs so just a regular bunny check up and my buns flip out..they hate hearing the dogs bark…

Thank you all! I did sleep with a little towel last night that I’ll take with him to put on the bottom of his cage. I’ll take his grass ball (his fave) and his litter box as you’ve suggested and I think I’m going to fill his hay spinner with oat hay (also his favorite) so he will be able to eat that if he doesn’t like the hay they give him at the vet’s office. I still feel bad, though, and I hope he doesn’t get too stressed out!
