I adopted a 2 month old bunny exactly 3 weeks ago from the SPCA.  She has not been spayed yet, but i will be taking her to get this done in about 5 weeks or so.  This is my first experience with a bunny.

We have her in a big dog kennel while we are away from home and then let her out when we come home.  She has always been very friendly and social.  However, last week she started biting fingers.  She never did that before.  But she doesn’t seem mad because she runs around and binkies after she bites.  Unfortunately, it has come to the point where my daughter and I are afraid to pet her.  I will feel bad giving her away, but I don’t know if I can handle the biting.  I will wait after she gets spayed to see if things get better. Hopefully they will.

Just wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions or information for me.  I’m new to the whole bunny experience!!  Thanks!

i have a new bunny too and hes not fixed yet, but doesnt bite…also from the spca and about the same age…. from what ive been told, their personalities change once fixed they become more friendly. does she have lots of things to chew on? like apple twigs, maybe she’s just not used to people yet, she might get better in time after being spayed.

Yeah, she has some fruit flavored wood chewing things (sorry, I don’t know what they’re called) and another bunny chew toy. Her foster mom at the SPCA told me that she is very social with humans, so maybe I just need to wait for her to be spayed. I hope everything works out!!

            Thanks for the comment!! 🙂

Young rabbits can be a bit nippy as they learn their way. Also, she approaching puberty which may bring out some less desirable behaviours. When she trys to bite, briefly push her nose to the floor or give a stern “No!” or “Ah-Ah”. Try avoid approaching to pet from directly in front of her also as she may not see your hand right away. So her biting may be a defense for her. Is she doing it when you reach into her cage at all?

my bunny is not fixed yet either and she nips at me sometimes when i stick my finger in her cage.she thinks everything i hand her is food so that’s probably why she nips at me.silly bunny.

dont give up on your bunny yet.she might just be adjusting to her new home and she still dont know who to trust.

                  Thanks for the comments!

Yes, she does bite sometimes when we stick our fingers in the cage to pet her. That just started recently too. But again, she is still doing her binkies and acting like a happy bunny, so I am assuming she is still happy.

Rabbits are very territorial about their spaces so if you are sticking your fingers in her cage to pet her, she’s probably defending her turf. Probably best not to bother her or her stuff while she’s in their and try to pet her outside her space.

Yes, as Sarita said she may be becoming territorial in her cage. This can become more so when the hormones arrive. So the time in between now and when you plan to get her spayed can be a little rocky.
