Lol. i think i really need to work my bunny hard and put her on a diet. i started this website yesterday, and read the diet part today, so i started babs diet today. i use to give her 3/4s her bowl, which i now know is WAY too much and even deadly. my bunny is almost turning 2, and has the biggest belly. i just noticed it today when she was laying flat on her tummy. i have put her on a diet of half a cup of pellets, unlimmited timothy hay, and in morning, slivered carrots and apples. also a couple bannana peices. she doesnt like to run which is going to be a challenge. but here is a pic of how fat my little baby is.
:S
she does have a cute little tail though… (i think you can ACTUALY see little butt cheeks in this pic XP
Nice pictures, you maybe should cut down the treats a bit to 2 to 3 times a week with small proportions.
I copied this from the Binky Bunny diet info.
Minimal Treats (3 x week) – Natural treats are healthiest.
This is an "or" list. Only one of these treats at a time:
Keep amounts small as shown
NOTE: This is based on adult rabbit needs. (1-5 years old) Please check out
Yes to what Lisa said – she needs greens to supplement her diet not fruit and carrots.
The decrease in pellets is a good idea and the unlimited hay is good too. What type of hay are you giving her?
Yes fruit and carrots should be given as a tiny treat. You also need to give her much more hay than what is in the picture. Lisa said it all! Great pictures though of your rabbit. How’s her broken toe?
Lisa – I know this is not the place but have you been watching the Australian Open??? I’m dying to go one day.
lol… i can see the butt cheeks! good for you for taking action on your bun’s behalf. she may not appreciate getting less pellets as first (my bun stomped her feet a lot when i did this) but she’ll thank you in the long run. be prepared for her to start eating a lot more hay. mine didn’t start really eating a lot of hay until a few weeks after i limited her pellets & then she just went nuts. was hard to keep up with her! i think i mentioned this to you in another thread, but building an NIC fence or using an xpen might help your bun get more time to excercise out of her cage. she may not run a lot, but i think having consistant access to a space of her own where she can wander a bit, and toss toys or paper or cardboard about, will give her some more excercise. imho consistancy is key for her to feel as relaxed in her run-about space as she does in your pics. how’s her toe / nail?
That’s great you’re doing this for your bunny! I know that she may not be able to thank you in words, but the rewards in the end, perhaps a binky, will make it all worthwile. It is not easy to care for a rabbit and that is in part why Binky Bunny came to be. There is a lot of information out there that just is not the suitable way to take care of our furred friends and it really helps to have people to ask questions even if you have located information on the proper way to care for your rabbit companion. Welcome, and I hope things go very well for you both!
Your bun is very cute but I agree a bit on the chunky side
Keep us updated on her weightloss progress! Hang in there Babs, I know what your going through, lol…
I have watched a bit of it, Lleyton Hewitt and Casey Dellacqua won their games.

HAHA yeah, shes hanging in, but i gave her some lettus, i think i remeber hearing not to give her much tho, so im gonna go shopping for things like parsly and stuff.
thanks
Lettuce is not good for rabbits.
Here is the link of Binky Bunny vegi/fruit list.
I agree with all the advice, but I have a quick question – I thought lettuce was good for rabbits, as long as it was romaine and not iceburg??
right no iceburg
what greens are rabbits most favorite?
You can give them lettuce but I don’t, I have read it can give them diarrhea.
Iceberg Lettuce has no nutritional value.
They can have Red leaf and romaine but they are high in vitamin A so I wouldn’t give too much of it.
I personally only stick to all the vegetables on the Binky Bunny veg and fruit list that are not in Bold, to me there is plenty of choice to not have to use them.
ooh, okay. thanks. yeah i gave my bun bun lettus and she got sick. probably iceberg lettus. i will find other greens. thanks XD
with any dietary changes it’s best to do so slowly – so if you’re going to decrease her pellets, i would do it over several weeks. Are her pellets timothy based? alfalfa pellets are too high in calories for most adult bunnies, so you may consider switching from one to the other – but again the transition should be over a few weeks.
it’s always a good idea to introduce new veggies one at a time, so you can see if it causes tummy upset.
the general rule is that the darker greens have much better nutritional content and are a better choice. Since iceberg is more white than green – it’s a sign that it’s not very nutritious.
some popular choices at my house
dandelion greens (only 1 – 2 times a week, high in calcium)
flat leaf or italian parsley (better than the curly kind)
dill
basil
watercress
cilantro
chard
kale (only 1 – 2 times a week, high in calcium)
carrot tops
turnip greens
ooh thanks for the list
hey can they eat spinach?
spinach is ok, but should only be offered a few times a week or only offer a small amount.
oh okay thanks
