bunny beds?

I ordered a bunny condo for Frappe and just got it set up this week. It is much larger and nicer than the pet store cage he had before. It has 2 levels and the top level is carpeted. My question is-does he need some type of bed? In his old cage he had Aspen wood chips and he snuggled down in those behind his hidey house. I guess a soft blanket or towel would work but was wondering what other people use for “beds” Thanks!.

He doesn’t need a bed unless you want to give him one….I’ve found that they rarely like to sleep in them and would much prefer a cardboard box to hangout in. Really – it’s whatever your bun prefers. Lola has a little “cuddle cup” that she likes to nuzzle in every once in awhile for an afternoon nap but we switch it out just like her toys so her habitat is always changing and it keeps her entertained.

Monkey has a little cat bed she likes, as well as a towel to snuggle into. However, with any kind of fabric or bed, you have to make sure your bun isn’t the type to chew it to bits I can’t give Moose a bed, as he has destroyed the last 2 he had. No point

Good point monkeybun!  When you introduce something new and fluffy make sure you monitor it for the first couple days!  Lola’s entire top 2 levels are carpet lined because she doesn’t chew but today I bought a new carpeting panel from the House Rabbit Society here and she is digging and biting at it like CRAZY (i think it’s because it might smell like the buns at the store…).  So just be careful – a tummy full of carpet fiber and bed filling is no bueno!

It really depends on the bun, i bought mine a nice bed and he snobs it for the cold floor, even on freezing days! Give him a rug and he’ll wee on it even though he has immaculate litter box wee habits usually! maybe try a few towels or something similar and make it into the shape of a bed first to see if he’ll use it before spending money on a bed

It really varies wildly between buns. Mine don’t really care for beds, and seem to prefer sleeping on cold hard surfaces when given the choice, silly things. It seems like a lot of people buy pet beds only to be disappointed when their bunnies completely ignore it, chew it to bits, or decide to pee all over it. Of course, that isn’t to say that there aren’t bunnies that do like to sleep on pet beds..just be aware . You could always try putting down an old towel or shirt to see how Frappe responds.

Mine won’t sleep in pet beds, he prefer the cold floor, a empty box, or a rug, preferably the one right under the A/C where its frigid ( I think he is part popsicle ). I tried a pet bed but all he did was shove it in a corner so he could lay on the plastic bottom of his cage.

LOL three of mine just stretch out or flop anywhere they feel like it. But Baby our mini lop likes my boots to sleep in, not sure y. LOL I am suprised that the smell didnt bug her LMAO

Love the cowboy boot bunny!

Mine all love their cardboard box beds. Just a cardboard box with a door cut in it, which of course they alter to their liking. Olivia and Bindi have blankets in theirs, Stormy hates blankets so he gets shredded paper. They do all of their serious sleeping in their bed/houses and use them as a safe haven too. It makes a safe and secure place for them to sleep.

Mine use their blankies in a closet, they don’t like boxes or hidey huts or other houses to crawl into for sleeping. If they don’t have an easy escape route they freak at every noise, even me walking. They also have 2 cat beds, but they don’t really use them… Stickers peed on them to mark them as hers and then ignores them. lol

My bunny also prefers the sunny spots on the floor and laying inside hideouts to anything soft. I do have a small pet carrier (door removed) in her enclosure that she sleeps in much of the time. I typically put a bit of news paper on the bottom but change it out every 2-3 days. She loves shredding the paper which gets a bit messy.

The bonus to having the small travel crate in her enclosure is that she really seems to view it as her “safe space” and really enjoys hanging out inside. It makes trips to the vet very easy! I just pop the door back on the crate, put it on the ground, let her hop in, close the door behind her, and she’s happy all of the way to the vet’s office.
Once there, I put the crate on the exam table, lure her out with a cranberry or bit of parsley and close the door so she can’t get back in. When the vet is done, I open the door so she can hop right back in, close the door, and away we go.

Tait has exactly 3 sleeping spots:

The top floor of his cottontail cottage on a blankie
The middle of the floor… same spot every time
He has a small cat bed, at the entrance of his X-Pen

They are all pretty much out in the open. I have a little weirdo

I bought some little cat pads for my bunns to sleep on. Cupcake prefers to dig hers more than sleep on it, but Dizzie has a loft in her nighttime cage and she likes the pad up there.

My bun loves the cat beds I bought him. It was only $8 and is one of those fleece oval donut shaped beds. It is big enough for him to flop in and he likes to put his head on the little raised sides. He also licks them but doesn’t chew.

I had a bunny bed once, but it got very chewed and was never used (other than to be chewed) and it also got very hairy, so my buns sleep on the ground! They don’t even sleep on the carpet in their room, they prefer to sleep on the coroplast in their cage. Silly buns. I know fern has enough fur that her fur is probably padding enough for the floor, but sometimes I wish they would accept luxuries like a bed.
