I would never (intentionally!) give my rabbits a bath.

I put Lint in a warm room to dry after he got wet from his dip in the water pail.
Here’s some more info on bathing rabbits, or rather why it isn”t recommended.

Rabbits don’t usually need baths, they are very good at grooming themselves. You should only give them baths when it is absolutely necessary (for example, poopy butt). If you do need to bathe your bunny, make sure he is kept warm afterwards because you’re right, they can catch a chill very easily. Their fur takes a LONG time to dry, which means they are wetter longer and therefore more vulnerable to the cold.

I read that most rabbits get terribly stressed out by being bathed. I’m sure my rabbits would freak and give the stink eye for several days – weeks thereafter.

Thank you all for the wise words. It was just something i was wondering about because someone told me they bath there bunnies with loreal kids, and i kinda wondered if this was wise.

petzy, i read your story about lint and it amused me greatly how you referd back to it.

I try to think of them like cats, they only need a bath if they are say, incontinent or get into something gross. (And undiagnosed incontinence-that should be seen by a vet!)

They definitely get cold after, when I have to bum bath Rupert (Kokanee used to require them too) I’d have to bundle them up in towels then lay with them under a blanket to keep them warm. And wet+after a bath=they aren’t exactly in a mood to snuggle with mom!
