My English spot is about 7 months old, I’ve had him for almost 2 months now. He has always had a small rug near his cage since I’ve had him that he’s never touched once. In the middle of my sleep I woke up around 7am and saw that the rug had been pulled to his cage and chewed off in spots. I’ll attach a photo,

He seems his happy self, loves to lick me and gets excited when he sees me come in the room, has been eating his hay, but I haven’t seen any poop yet. Should I be worried? It’s 3pm now so it’s been about 8 hours since I noticed the rug.

        Please help I’m so nervous

Hi Jenn, I’m not sure if the photo is still loading, but I don’t see it yet.
My bunnies like to rip at rugs and carpets and towels – they will put some holes in it, but you can see the sections they pulled out separate on the floor – so I knew they haven’t eat in it.
Do you see pieces separate from the whole rug? (as in he just dug and tore at it, but didn’t eat it)

Also, are you sure there has been NO poop for 8 hours? If so, than yes, I would be worried he had a blockage and should see a bunny savy vet (as there insides aren’t like cats and dogs, which I’m sure you know)

What I do if I’m worried that they may not be pooping is completely clean out their litter box and the surrounding area if he’s not 100% litter box trained and see from there if there is no poop.

I’m glad that he’s eating hay and acting normal, is he drinking?
Not pooping for a full 8 hours while still eating isn’t good though, as the poop needs to be going somewhere.

Buns do have a tendency to eat things they shouldn’t. It’s often not extremely bad for them, because as opposed to cats and dogs, buns tend to chew what they eat very thoroughly. That means the stomach acid has a chance to work on the eaten material. They don’t swallow big chunks of things.

You should keep an eye on your him for the next day-couple of days and encourage hay-eating by for example hand-feeding him individual strands. If he normally eats veggies, you can serve them to him dripping wet so he gets extra water in him. Hydration is very important. If he hasn’t pooped at all in like 12-16 hours, you should contact a vet. Sooner of course, if he stops eating and/or starts acting like he’s very uncomfortable (like pressing his tum against the floor as if he were doing push-ups). But the majority of buns come out of things like this without any ill effects at all.

I can’t see that you’ve attached a photo to your post.

At for some reason it won’t let me upload the photo it says the file is too big. But it looks like he tore it off of the rug and maybe ate some parts because I saw only a little bit of fabric torn on the floor,
I’m not sure if it’s been a full 8 hours of no poop because when I woke up around 11 this morning I saw poop but I was unsure if it was from before he ate the rug or after because I saw poop around 7am too when I first noticed the rug. I should’ve probably cleaned his cage out when I first noticed it at 7 that could’ve given me a better idea.

It does look like he’s eaten a little but I mean, that is a tiny amount. I really wouldn’t be too concerned if he’s still eating and pooping.

Fernando has taken up chewing on the sisal rug in the buns’ play area recently. I’m not overly worried since I got that rug precisely to provide a safe (or safer, anyway) surface for Panda and Fernando to play (and chew) on, but I’m keeping a weather eye out for any problems.

Rug and Carpet is dangerous for bunny’s to ingest so check up on the poos and make sure that he is eating well. Hopefully he will be fine.

Thanks for the update! It’s really scary when they eat stuff they shouldn’t.
