My Basil ate a bite of a ruby ball cactus plant. I already called the rabbit savvy animal hospital and they said to only feed hay and monitor his poop. I’m still pretty shaken- has anyone had a similar experience or additional information? Freaking out here! ?

From what I can find, most cacti aren’t poisonous. I think the savvy vets you called would have wanted to give your bun active charcoal if they suspected poisoning. Hay and water and monitor is the recommendation you get whenever a bun has eating something unusual. And rabbits do eat unusual things quite a lot, f ex pieces of shoes, plastic, fabric, house plants, salty snacks, dog kibble. Most come out just fine. Unlike cats and dogs, rabbits tend to chew what they put in their mouths very thoroughly, and that’s a very god thing.

There’s always a risk new food disagrees with the individual bunny, so you might see some poop irregularities. Some buns get gas. For gas you can give baby gas drops (simethicone).
