Hello everyone! I just got a bunny today from the humane society I work at. He’s a doll, a 4 month old Lionhead/Dwarf mix (or something, thats what they said on the card and I haven’t been in to check his record) and is super duper inquisitive. I’ve got him set up in my room, so far I’ve been letting him have free roam of my room (where he’ll be staying most of the time.)

However, we have two cats in the house. My room gets too warm to keep the door shut all the time, so I put up a baby gate to keep the cats out and the bunny in. The bunny (I haven’t picked out a name for him yet, hence why I’m calling him “bunny” haha) seems pretty nonplussed by the cats so far. He’ll hop by the gate, sniff the cat that’s laying near it, and hop away.

One of my cats, Charlie (1.75 year old Siamese) seems interested in him. He watches bunny hop around, sniffs him when he comes by the gate and meows softly. The other cat, Oliver (just over 2 year old tabby) has been hissing and growling, but has never attempted to come over the gate and ends up walking away.

I know I need to keep them apart for a bit to let them get used to eachother being in the house, but I was wondering if keeping them separated by the baby gate (as long as the cats dont try to jump over it) is okay. Is it okay for them to see eachother right now?

        Thanks so much in advance!

I wouldn’t trust just the baby gate. I’d be worried about the cats jumping over. Or even bunny jumping over! Do you know what the height of the gate is? It might be better to use a specific dog gate as they’re taller than standard baby gates.
