My bunnies Macey and Winter are both allergic to something. They both have slight, clear, nasal discharge. They were living outside but I temporarily moved Macey inside without any hay to see if it could be allergies and her nose cleared up. I can’t keep them inside because everyone in our house is allergic to rabbits. I also can’t take away Winter’s hay if she is allergic to it because she can’t eat pellets, so hay and greens are whole diet. So now I am not sure what I should do and I am worried that if they live with snuffles for to much longer that it will lead to something worse.

It is not likely they are actually allergic to anything, while bunnies can develop allergies, it isn’t very common. More likely, they either have some sort of illness, or the dust in the hay is irritating to their noses. I would recommend you take your bunnies to the vet to rule out sickness, and try a dust-free hay. In the future, bunnies should always have hay available to them, it is 80% of their diet and really keeps their tummies working correctly.

          Why can’t Winter eat pellets?

Winter can’t eat pellets because she has ISC, and the pellets are to rich and it hurts her stomach. I don’t think that it’s an actual illness because their noses aren’t goopy there just a little bit wet. Although Macey just got spayed, maybe it stressed her out. I give them medow grass but I can try to find oat hay instead.

            Thank you
