Our carbon monoxide alarm went off (it was a false alarm) and when it did, I put my Beanie (the bunny) into her cage. However, I forget to lock the top of the cage and she managed to jump out of it. Her feet got caught on the side of the cage causing her to almost/partially land on her stomach. Immediately after the fall, she started to lick her lips/stick her tongue out (she doesn’t usually do that). I observed her behaviour for the next two hours and she could still run, jump, stand, eat, and flop. But occasionally, she would spontaneously look up, move her head left and right, and lick her lips. Also when cleaning her facing using her paws, she only seems to clean her mouth now instead of her entire face. It has been a few hours since she fell and even though I don’t think she broke anything, I am still worried about what my bunny is doing and why she is acting like that.

        Thanks,

        Ryan

How is your bun doing now? Hopefully she just had a scare, in which case she should soon be fine. Keep monitoring her, offer her a treat now and then, but don’t stress her out by fussing over her too much. If she starts to refuse even yummy treats and/or tries to hide away, I’d contact a vet. Do you notice any limping?

              Hi,

Thanks for the input! Beanie can move perfectly fine without any limping. I noticed a little red spot on her right lip and it was swollen a little bit. However, the swelling has mostly gone done now and the red spot has also shrunk. She can eat and drink perfectly fine but she still sometimes licks her lips. I assume she does this to try and get rid of any discomfort in that spot. I will continue to monitor her and see how she feels.

I’m glad to hear she’s doing so well! Try to get a look at her incisors (front teeth), in case she’s broken off a piece of tooth or something like that. Hopefully its just her lip that’s a bit sore though!

It sounds like it could be an injury to her mouth. Hopefully it’s just soft tissue and she didn’t break a tooth when she fell.
