Anyone else have bunnies that like and dislike certain colors?

Over the past few weeks I have begun to notice that my boys have favorites.  Here are a few examples….

Ivy- Only chews on pink things.  Pink rugs, pink towels, pink slippers, pink shoes, pink paper, etc.  If its blue, yellow, green , white, etc he wont touch it (the exception being cardboard and willow balls).

Samson- Prefers blue tile over white.  They have two huge tiles in the kitchen to lay on and cool off… one is blue the other is white.  They are the same texture, same material, same dimensions, everything is the same except the color.  No matter where I put the blue one Sammy will choose that one to lay on.

Both-  Wont eat their veggies from a blue bowl only a green plastic basket.  I always used to serve their big pile of veggies in a blue bowl which they would promptly flip and spread the veggies all over the floor.  One night I had to use that bowl for dinner so I put their veggies in a big green basket…. and now they will leave the veggies in there and eat out of the basket.

Silly bunnies!!! Anyone elses bunnies have color or texture preferences?

Here are 2 articles on rabbit vision you may find interesting:

          http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/vision.html

          http://www.wisconsinhrs.org/Articles/What%…%20See.htm

That’s very interesting about your 2 – I’ve honestly never even noticed anything like this in my rabbits.

Thanks… those articles were interesting! Wonder why Ivy likes pink then? Im not complaining because I can buy rugs I dont want destroyed in any other color.

The more time I spend with my two the more quirky things I find out about!

Anyone else notice similar color texture preferences?

Yes that is interesting, I have never noticed a color preference either. I will have to start paying attention to that I guess!

Well, at first I was surprised about the preference for blue over white for a cool tile, since white reflects heat and darker colors absorb it. (Who likes black leather seats in the car in summer?)

But then I thought that maybe a bunny sees a dark tile as similar to a hole or a shadow – a safer place to blend in to hide.

The pink…hmmm…looks like human skin? Or she’s just saying “oooo, pretty. I’m a girl!”

I wonder if being a REW has anything to do with it? This reminds me, I been wanting to find something that simulated how perhaps a dog or another animal would see, that would be similar to how rabbits would see. Like footage or a landscape that has been altered to portray how they would see it. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

Edit: I did find some colour blind simulators. Also some articles on Horse and Dog vision which challenged what textbooks have always indicated this vision to be like.  I might post in Lounge about it.  Dog article interesting as they found differences in differents dogs eyes that affected vision so it varied from breed to breed.  I wonder if same could be true for rabbits?

Are you sure Ivy likes pink – maybe she is eating it to get rid of the dreaded pink! He, he, he.

Rabbits are definitely not color blind like dogs.   I did see a site a while back that showed a video of what and how rabbits see.

Sorry but I can’t remember where I found it.  There is one out there tho

Video footage would be very interesting- what a great idea!  If you find something like that let us know!   I’ll be on the lookout too.
