I have a pair of bonded buns, Theo and Eve. They’re around 5 months old and both altered. I had Eve first, and brought Theo in around mid-October. They were bonded by late October with few complications. They’ve been doing wonderfully together since they’ve been bonded. Last night, Theo started humping Eve– something he hadn’t done since they first started being bonded since he was then just recently neutered. Eve was NOT having it. After pushing him off a few times, Theo finally quit and I was able to go to sleep. This morning, Eve was chewing her cage bars– she’s never done this before. She seemed to bolt away from Theo as soon as they got out– also highly unusual. I went back to sleep while they were out this morning, so I didn’t keep an eye on them to watch how they were interacting since they’re always typically fine. When I need to put the buns back in their cage, I lead them back in with their favorite treat. This has always worked out well. Sometimes I don’t even need to lead them back in; I just get the treats out, and they hop right in their cage and wait for their prize! So Theo happily obliged today, but Eve remained under my bed. She’s NEVER refused a treat, and is usually always the first and easiest to get back in the cage. Once I closed the cage doors on Theo, Eve came out to let me give her a treat and pet her for a while, but she REFUSED to budge. Clearly, something’s up, so today I just left Theo in the cage and Eve out under the bed and brought her food dish, water dish, and hay ball out. What’s going on? Has anyone ever had any experience like this? They’ve never been separated, and they haven’t been under any stressful events lately. If anything, this has been the least stressful part of their lives so far, after dealing with the stresses of bonding and then recently moving a few weeks ago. This seems so out of the blue. Does anyone have any suggestions?
