        Hi,

Recently, my partner and I had to plug up some gaps in our home with steel wool to prevent house mice from getting in — one spot we filled was by the radiator in our bedroom. I thought I had properly blocked that area off (with a trashcan and fabric shoved around the steel wool), but when I got home, I found that my two rabbits had somehow gotten to it and pulled some of the steel wool from the hole. I tried to examine their teeth, but neither was happy about it. One’s teeth seem totally fine, the other, I couldn’t really check out. Before I discovered the steel wool had been pulled out, I fed them some pellets and they ate it fine.

Are there any signs of distress I should look for? I’m sure since they ate the pellets, their teeth and gums are okay and uninjured, but in case they ingested any, what else should I look out for? I’m an experienced bunny owner, but nothing like this has ever happened before! These bunnies are a little over 2 months old.

        Thanks —

Oh my! Well I wouldn’t think it would be something they would actually want to ingest once they felt it in their mouths. Obviously if they stop eating/pooping then that would indicate there is a problem. Like you mentioned, I would be more worried about them having cuts in their mouths. If they are eating okay, then it is very possible that they simply pulled the steel wool out and then decided it wasn’t something they wanted to chew on.

I am going to delete the duplicate thread you posted in the Behavior section.
