I’m so happy, I came to visit my parents again and had to bring Bun-Bun with me… I don’t visit them that often, every couple months or so, it’s a 2 and 1/2 hour drive which isn’t fun for the bunny… Last time we visited was the first time he was in my parents’ house and he was sketched out, nervous and scared, but explored every inch of the room he was in (quite large) and got a lot of time outside his cage (unfortunately when we sleep he’s stuck in the little cage he came with, but it’s only for a couple days each time.)

This time he immediately acted like he knew where everything was, probably because he had marked a lot of the furniture by rubbing his chin on it, it was so cute to see him running around all bold and everything, he barely acted scared at all! Plus this house is carpeted (which mine isn’t) so instead of being stuck doing vertical binkies on the few small pieces of carpet I have for him, he can do the long runs with multiple leaps – like a show rabbit so cute!

I guess I felt bad carting him with me on a long car ride, and assumed it would be traumatic every time, but now I see he remembers this place and is happy and comfortable here already, so I have no problem bringing him with me every time I visit! Such a relief!

That is so interesting! I wonder how long their scent lasts when they chin rub!?

Last time I was in the car with Bee, we were going the speed limit on a normal street on the way to the vets to get her spayed, I was cut off and flipped off and he honked and laid on it!!!! I thought Bee was going to flip out after that guy laid on the horn for no reason…. Bay Area driving ….. *raises fist in anger*

Someone please take me away to Australia, my dream country.

Yeah the driving part isn’t fun, for sure! And I have no idea how long their chin scent lasts… I assume it’s a pheromone of sorts and it probably lasts indefinitely as long as the item they rubbed it on isn’t cleaned. My parents are definitely not cleaning the legs of furniture and things like that at ground level. I won’t come back until Thanksgiving and I’m sure he’ll remember again… his behavior compared to last time is like night and day, he’s so comfortable, it’s really cute!

oh, trust me on the memory part. Izabella remembers an area of tile she has not been on for months. Where I had her trained when I first brought her home in June, and when my daughter taught her run free on the tile again last week she went directly back to the tile hallway she originally trained her on. And she has not been there for at least 2 months. When my neice comes to visit, who visits every few months but who was her for a week at a time during the summer she always recognized her right away and goes right to her. So, bunnies with memories yep. My husband is amazed at how great of a pet Izabella is. Yay Bunnies!

We recently moved across country with our 3 year old rabbit. I thought for sure, he’d be timid and shy in the new place, heck no! as soon as he realized all the furniture was the same (his scent marked property) hes hoping around like we never moved. Funny though, the two place he will no longer go, the bath room and kitchen, my husband says its because THAT part is new to him. ;o) silly rabbits.
