        Hi,

I’ve seen a couple of threads regarding this issue, but they were more about what the owner should do rather than about the health of the rabbit.

I just adopted my sweet 2 year old boy Jack and we’re getting along famously.

A couple of weeks ago new neighbors moved in downstairs and because this building is old and the floors are thin I am getting overwhelmed with their second hand pot smoke. I am concerned for my rabbit.

I have zero moral or human health issues with smoking weed, but I would like to know if there are any health risks for a rabbit to be smelling marijuana? I can’t see smoke in my apartment but the smell is strong enough to give my husband headaches.

I tried asking the guy to smoke in another room so that it doesn’t come into the rabbit’s room, but he seems to be ignoring me.I can escalate this to the landlord if I need to.

        Is my bunny in danger?

marijuana is a huge debate. different people are going to tell you different thing, and research is still on going…
I won’t say your bunny is in immediate danger, but i don’t think is healthy to inhale smoke in general..but i think in your case it is pretty diluted..

There has been cases where pets are intoxicated – thought more serious is by digestion rather than inhalation:

            Thanks for the reply.

He seems fine, in fact he’s a little more active than usual…

BUT that could just mean he’s settling in. I’ve only had him a week! Coincidentally this is the week the marathon smoking started.

What would be obvious signs that’s he doesn’t like the smoke?

If I were you, I would discuss it with your landlord. I have nothing against people using marijuana but I don’t want to have to smell it. If you are paying to rent an apartment, you shouldn’t have to either. Although, I can understand your hesitation to cause problems.

Would you believe I have the exact same problem! These neighbours moved in a little over six months ago and between the noise they make at all hours and the smell of the weed they are driving me daft! To be honest, I seem a lot more bothered about it than the bunnies do and they have been to the vet for checkups a few times since they moved in (bramble goes regularly for his teeth, ron tags along) and they are both healthy

I may be having a turn of good luck though because there is a for let sign outside and a load of furniture in the garden and I haven’t smelled anything this week so maybe mine are gone. In my case we didn’t share a landlord so there was really nothing I could do except call the police which didn’t work but if I was you I would definitely escalate it to the landlord if it carries on after you have spoken to them. All I wanted was for my neighbours to open some bloomin’ windows and they wouldn’t even do that. Like you I have no issues with what other people smoke but I do have issues with my stuff smelling like its me doing the smoking, especially with the line of work I am in.

I feel your pain! I’ve smelled it since I spoke to them, but no where near as bad as Friday night. There has been cigarette smoke too which is so much worse in my opinion.

I was thinking about getting them a smoke buddy and some cookies and hanging them off of their door knob. Kind of like “Have fun but don’t make my bunny have fun with you!” I really don’t want to make an enemy of these people.

I asked him if he could smoke in his kitchen which is a different area than my bunny room. I’m hoping as the weather improves the windows will be more open and this will be less of a problem.

I never thought I would be one of those people who complain about pot smoke. I’m getting square in my old age.
