Bunnies and high humidity?

  Our house is normally pretty humid, between 50 and 65% and the bunnies don’t seem to mind. But we will be painting and they’ll need to stay in the basement for a few days, which is currently 80% humidity (it doesn’t get hotter than 70 degrees though). We have one dehumidifer we use in our bedroom, should we sacrifice it for a few days and put it by the bunnies in the basement, or does high humidity not affect bunnies?

  I would think they’d be just as uncomfortable in high humidity as we are. If it were me…I’d give them the dehumidifier.

  I grew up in an area where we had 80% or higher humidity for sometimes weeks at a time in the summer. It’s hot and sticky and miserable, everyone hates it. It’s like the air itself is think and clings to you. While I’m sure they’d be fine without the dehumidifier I’d probably give it to them. There are wild rabbits everywhere where I grew up, but that doesn’t mean they like summer.

  Bed Bath and Beyond has one of those chemical dehumidifiers for 12 bucks… put it down there a day or two before you start then leave it while the bunnies are down there. My mom used to use the same chemical in cheesecloth and a bucket in our basement when I was little. My dad had a print shop down there so it had to be dry and it apparently worked pretty well.
  
  It collects the water from the air then allows it to drip into a holding basin until you empty it. Turns to brine.
