Hey! A while ago I decided to get my 3 year old bun a friend after finding out I was a bit misguided by my vet and a few pet shop owners that rabbits don’t need cage mates when I first got him. So instead of bonding him with another rabbit myself, because I’ve never done it before, I wanted to take him to a shelter that offered a play date sort of thing so rabbits can choose their friends, so I took him to one close-ish to when I live that had three does he could have been bonded with but he was really aggressive around all of them so the shelter had to stop trying to bond him as he got close to hurting a few of the does so I tried another shelter but the same thing happened, he was really aggressive again, the people at the shelter said he didn’t seem to trust the other rabbits and wouldn’t let them close to him. The next shelter that offers rabbits and bonding on site is about 3 hours away from me there and back so should I try taking him there? This whole situation is really stressing me out (and probably stressing him out) I feel like I’m failing as an owner to meet his needs I really don’t know what to do, I want him to have a friend because he’s not a horrible rabbit in fact he’s very laid back with me, he’s never shown signs of aggression towards me or my cats before (he adores my cats and chills out with them all the time) he’s had a few accidental incounters with my guinea pigs and he’s been friendly towards them too, I don’t understand why he’s being so hostle towards rabbits. The shelters that I’ve been to have only tried to bond him with does so should I try bucks as well? I’ve heard there’s a risk that they’ll fall out though later on 🙁 can someone give me advice on what to do? I spend as much time with him as I can and he gets some sort of companionship from my cats but that’s probably not enough. Or do some buns prefer to be alone?
Thanks in advance x
