I took Gus with me to my Nanna’s house yesterday. It’s about a 1.5 hour drive each way, and I was there for about 4 hours. The entire time Gus didn’t pee or poop at all (except for a pee on the way home). As soon as we got back and I let him out, he charged straight into his usual corner and started pooping (before I could even get the litter tray back down, lol). So clearly he needed to go and was just holding it in.
I HAD his litter tray with us (in the carrier first then removed once at my nanna’s – I made sure he knew where it was and took him there frequently just in case he wanted to use it). He was happy, exploring and eating the entire visit, so he was otherwise healthy. He’s done this before when I’ve taken him to visit a friend, too.
Is it normal for them to want to wait till they get back home to go to the bathroom? I’m worried that surely it’s not good for him to hold it in for that long. Is there anything I can do about it? Or should I just not take him on visits any more.
