Bun sleeps in litterbox

When I first got my buns ,I was told that rabbits will sleep as far away as possible from their litterbox, because they like to keep clean. However I noticed that Boo always liked to sleep right beside her litterbox. A couple days ago she started sleeping IN her litterbox, is this normal? Should I do something about it?

I know my buns will lay outside of it but if they are in pain they will lay in their litter box. Is she still eating and pooping normally? She might have some dental issues that she should be seen for or even some gas pain.

Mine do it too. It’s because the bedding (paper pellets) I use is nice and soft and I don’t give them any other soft stuff. If your litter box is big enough so that they can lay away from their own poop and pee it’s fine in my opinion. You can alsways put a second box down. I did that for a while (with only a water bowl inside of it) and they used the second one as bed and drinking station instead of litterbox, which was very convinient.

No, boos perfectly healthy. She’s pooping and eating regularly. I never considered any dental issues, but she just doesn’t seem in pain. She’s binkying around and having a good time. She isn’t getting dirty and it’s not any inconvenience for me. I was just worried in case this meant something bad. Thanks guys!

My bun does this too! He started out just like yours and eventually dug out all the litter. He now does his business in the corner and thinks his tray is a bed ?. But that’s just the way he wants it I guess.

So long as your bun is clean and happy ? I wouldn’t worry, think a lot of buns do it.

Panda and Fernando, who have just hit their ten-month bunniversary with me, have really taken to relaxing in their litterbox nowadays. I often see one or both of them lazing out in the box, particularly in the early evenings. Since I put a layer of hay on top of what’s already quite soft paper litter (Carefresh), I gather it’s quite comfy for them and they seem to do pretty well at avoiding the soiled area; I think it’s also a factor that the litterbox is located in a cool, well-shaded area on the lower level of their “condo” cage. They were both given a clean bill of health, including teeth (aside from needing to go on a diet) last month, and from every sign I’ve observed they’re in top form, lively, eating heartily – they empty their pellet bowl every day and always eat all but a little bit of their salad, and frequently nosh on hay – and from what I can tell they’re pooping particularly abundantly nowadays; I get the feeling there are distinctly more poops inside (and outside) the box than there used to be, and they’re all the round, hard, dry, brownish healthy kind.
