Bumble foot?

So I just took the bunnies to the vet (generally good health all around, yay!) and it’s a new vet as I recently moved.  My impressions of her were good, she handled the buns well and gave me all the good and appropriate advice about food and possible health problems to watch out for and all that.  As some of you may remember from quite some time ago, Spencer has had some trouble with a sore front foot, the vet I took them to before said he probably injured it but that I shouldn’t worry it was healing well.  Well that was january and while it doesn’t bother him much (he doesn’t favor it, but he ‘claps’ quite often) it’s still pretty much the same, athough not as sore looking.  The new vet tested him for fungal infection, ringworm (although she didn’t think that’s what it was just to rule it out) and checked for mites, and none of that was the case.  So she said it’s “Grade 1 Bumble Foot Lesions” and I should keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get any worse but that as it is that might be what is now normal for him or it might take a very long to get back to totally normal but so long as I watch it and it doesn’t worsen I shouldn’t worry and there’s not much to be done.  My impression of her was totally positive, but I’d never heard of any such thing.  Has anyone else had a bumble footed bunny?

After a google search it sounds like bumble foot usually refers to a similar problem as sore hocks in animals that aren’t rabbits, but maybe in rabbits is pretty much the same as sore hocks, but not exactly on the hocks?  Also: much more fun to say. Spencer is my bumble bunny

Never heard of bumble foot but I have heard of ringworm!
Having had stray pets that the family took in, fixed, returned to the wild and then fed, the kids in the family got ringworm from time to time. I recently got it from a trip to the vets office, I pet the wrong dog! When I got it, I was worried about it getting to Huckleberry, so I called many vets all over the country. I found one in Cali that said that buns dont generally get it, but there is one strain particular strain that they get more than others. He said sunshine is the best thing for it. Turned out to be true because all the treatments in the world did nothing, until I got a sunburn and it was gone instantly! So, thats some info if the problem ever does come up. 🙂

This term is usually associated with guinea pigs and I think you are right, it’s similiar to sore hocks. It’s an inflammation. Generally vets call it sore hocks for rabbits and bumblefoot for guinea pigs. I don’t think rabbits actually have bumble foot though, just sore hocks.

That’s sort of what I thought Sarita. I think she’s calling it that just because it’s sort of weird and she hasn’t seen anything exactly like it so she improvised a name for the records to remind her next time she sees him. She didn’t say “your bunny has bumble foot” to me, she just explained what she thought the problem was, that’s just how she listed it on his report card. I think we should claim bumble foot for bunnies, it’s so much more alliterative and I have a weird problem with saying “hock” correctly for some reason.

Huckleberry, that’s really weird about sunshine and ring worm! Luckily for you, you live somewhere that you can sometimes find sunshine.
